A close examination of the article “Representation and Landscape: Drawing in the Landscape Medium” reveals the various ways in which landscape is represented. This article explains how drawings and paintings have been used to make a representation of various forms of landscape architecture. From a landscape architecture perspective, this argument is good since it helps designers to understand the changes in landscape architecture for better decision making. However, the article fails to clearly explain how the landscape media affect the land designers. Some reviewers have argued that this would be important since the designers would be in a position to choose the right landscape medium for quality design.
Turning to the article “Maps, knowledge and power,” the author has tried to incorporate social and political aspects in landscape architecture. This article helps to explain the evolution of various parts of land based on the historic political powers that were experienced in various parts of the world. The author also elaborates how maps can be important in allocating various parts of architecture. However, the article has some flaws which include the exclusion of some important information in the maps. In addition to this, the article does not explain how the problem of interpreting various aspects of landscape is solved. This may leave the designers with the dilemma of whether to engage fully in the use of maps or not.
Looking at the article “Dialectics of Landscape and Representation,” the author presents the dilemmas that are usually faced by designers in landscape architecture. He argues that apart from these dialectics, there is also a problem of locating tools of representation, which creates another dilemma to the landscape designer. His arguments are quite systematic and consistent with landscape architecture since he tells of how evaluation of forms of landscape can be used to solve these dilemmas. In landscape architecture, time is also an important aspect of problem solving. The author does not show how long it may take to solve the dialectics in landscape architecture.
Lastly, the article “Four Trace Concept” outlines the four tools that can be used for conducting design in landscape architecture. The arguments made in this article have been organized in a systematic order since the four concepts start with landing and end with founding. From a landscape architecture point of view, this pattern maintains consistency in landscape design. The equipment needed in all the stages is however not outlined. This should form as a basis of connecting the theory of landscape architecture to real world situations.
In conclusion, all the above articles relate on each other since they argue about landscape architecture in one way or the other. Apart from the article “Map, Knowledge and Power,” the other three articles have made some arguments regarding landscape design. The other similarity of the articles is that they are all founded on issues meant to improve the various forms of landscape architecture. The authors of the four articles have a wide proficiency in landscape architecture. This is the major reason why these articles have made strong arguments about landscape architecture that have been adopted by several readers in the world.
