Thesis Statement
Gay marriages should not be legalized as these would give the gay couples a chance to preserve and advance their kind, and also constitutional support for their marriages.
Module Three
Example of Each Error from Personal Life
How did the thinking error affect your critical thinking?
How could you manage the emotions associated with this thinking error?
Personalization: this is when a person believes that everything happening in the world is about them
Last week Tuesday when I joined my two friends on the canteen seat, they looked gloomy. I wondered what mistake I had done for them to be this sad with me.
I let my emotional assumptions form the basis of how I was to relate with my friends.
I would ask my friends what was disturbing them.
Polarized Thinking: this is the categorizing of things and issues into two extreme groups.
In high school I used to rate my performance at school as either good or bad; it never occurred to me that I might be somewhere in between those two extremes.
I failed to critically analyze my performance and was at times discouraged since I rated my performance as bad while in fact I was slightly above the average.
I will use a continuous scale to measure my education.
Overgeneralization: Using a single event to make a broad conclusion
When I met my friend Tom, I thought everyone in their family was as final and outgoing as him. I later came to realize that this was not true and the mother was an introvert.
I based my conclusion of a whole family on a single individual forgetting that all individuals are autonomous of each other.
I would judging others based on what others in their group do.
Catastrophizing: This is composed of a fear of the worst happening in uncertain situations
When my small sister came home at 7:30 p.m. last night, I was scared. I thought she had been kidnapped and was just waiting for a ransom call.
I was so afraid of the bad situation happening that it impaired my critical analysis of the situation.
I will keep an open mind in such situations.
