United States of America went into a war against Iraq early in the 21st century. It was with the claims of possible possession of chemical weapons by the Saddam Hussein regime. The actual facts never came forth.
However, this war proved to be one of the most expensive affairs United States of America had to confront. The causalities are too much more than those that were suffered in the Vietnam War. The killing of Iraqis on a daily basis is a normal event of the Iraqi society, and this can be owed to the overall miss adventure of United States of America. To some values the amount of civilian causalities may have surpassed a million figure digits (Steele).
About the possible threats of Iraq going nuclear, the Israel air force in collaboration with United States of America unleashed military strikes upon Iraq early in 1981 with aims of halting the possible developmental process over Iraq’s nuclear ambitions. The direct target of these attacks was the Osirak reactor which is believed to have been used for the purpose of developing nuclear arsenal (BBC).
The impact of the war has not been just limited to the number of casualties in terms of life loss, rather the overall number of displacements, as well. United Nations Refuge program has assessed the overall scenario and has expressed severe concerns with the overall rising rate of the people being displaced in the different manner across the country. Turkey may well be another option for the immigrants to head to and other bordering countries that the immigrants may find it convenient taking safe shelter in, while the country in is the state of war and civil destruction. According to the findings of the U.N designated agency, the overall number of displacements within the city amount to over eighty thousand and these numbers are feared to increase in the upcoming days with no visible chances of war seizure anytime soon. To other updated reports, the amount of immigrants both domestically displaced and outside the country amount to over four million in total with an equal share of immigrants on either end. The U.N designated agency aims at facilitating these individuals and these families in whatever way possible and giving them a chance to live their lives in a more effective manner (Redmond).
On financial and defense grounds the war has been a very costly affair, as well. It is not just the loss of important lives being lost; rather the amount being invested in the war is in billions of dollars. According to formally organized entities that take into account the net amount of expenditure that has so far been incurred into Iraq war give a very horrifying value. According to their reports, the net amount so far spent into the war is eight hundred and sixteen billion dollars. This funding and budget includes the defense equipment, the military base stations installations, the troops welfare and many other factors that are directly associated with the Iraq war and have become an uninvited baggage to the U.S economy that is already hit by the economic recession and other global challenges of increased competition worldwide.
The same entity National priority Project has undertaken assessment value estimation towards the expenses incurred with regard to the other areas of the war. The collaborations being made; the funding provided to the allies states, and the other expenditure that comes in the form of War constraints makes up for the costs attached. The impact of this war is directly falling upon the environment as well, and this company has also given values of the net expenditure in terms of the earth’s atmosphere and its spending all over (NPP).
The allies of United States of America who have stood shoulder sideways with U.S have also been grilled over their decision to taking part in the war. One similar example is that of the Madeline Albright reaction to a question when she is being questioned about the policy about the total damages incurred in terms of the infants that have been killed so far in the overall Gulf expedition. The net gulf expedition has been a package of two wars, with First Gulf war fought in the 1990s, and the second one being fought early in 2000s which is currently going on.
There are other perspectives and domains that have been mentioned regarding the real objectives of the war that has been engaged in Iraq. One similar confrontation and revelation came about from the adviser to the incumbent President himself who stated that the overall objective of the war has been to protect Israel of the possible offensive of Iraq against it. This created a considerable stir in the decision making corridors after such a reliable person came up with such a confrontation. Philip Zelikov further claims that United States of America was not at any sort of threat from the Iraq’s military regime(Mekay).
Overall the war has been a costly affair with damages and destruction in every domain. The real political and diplomatic objectives of the war can only be waited for.
