Summary of the seminar plan
Objective
The main objective of the seminar is to highlight on the major issues attached to the diversity of culture in the field of nursing. We all understand that the world is changing with each new day. This is necessitated by the fact that the world has been transformed into a global village due advancement in technology. There is change in cultural composition in any given social setting and this is even on a serious scale in the United States of America. The needs for patients are thus becoming diverse and this poses many challenges to the nurses for they have to accommodate the needs of every client. (Jeffreys, 2008)The understanding consequently will ensure that quality health care is given to the clients.
It is a prerequisite by the society that nurses be sensitive to cultural diversity so that they can be able to accommodate the varied cultures emerging every now and then (Jeffreys, 2008). In the United States, statistics indicate that the population with the least percentage in the population has risen to 100 million (Lowe et al, 2009).This is indicative of a huge change in the cultural diversity. Nursing is a discipline known to embrace, integrate and permeate cultural diversity. The diverse needs of the clients are proving hard to be incorporated since there are no enough qualified personnel versed well with this gift. The U.S government insists a lot on the elimination of disparities in the health sector meaning that all clients should be treated with equality (Lowe et al, 2009).
Efforts have been put in place to address the issue of the diverse culture facing the nursing sector. There was the transcultural nursing movement, which was aimed at bringing sensitivity to the nurse’s own culture and that of the clients. The movement was also a way of linking the culture concept to nursing aspects in entirety in the course of health care provision (Lowe et al, 2009). Although an improvement is noticed in the nursing sector, there should be a continued effort to satisfactorily address this call of urgency.
