After viewing and analyzing the main characters of all three shows, it seems that TV shapes our perception of gender, race, and social class to quite an extent. The media often seems to be inclined towards the better portrayal of men while the women do not receive equal attention. The media’s preference, especially in the U.S., seems to be towards Caucasian’s/whites, while ethnic minorities are frequently stereotyped. When it comes to social classes, social hierarchy seems to be celebrated by the media, where the wealthy are the center of attention and better off than the Middle and Lower Class. What we see is what we perceive, and if we see such depictions on TV, then we might start perceiving that these stereotypical depictions of gender, race, and social classes are authentic.
