In the 21st century, crime and criminal activities have risen tremendously. Undeniably, crime has become a global issue, whereby some existing forms of punishment are believed to be invalid. For example, in America criminals have become part of the neighborhoods. In fact, some of the organized gangs control all the activities in the neighborhood, as well as dictating all the security issues. Despite the increase in crime, law enforcing agents and society have the responsibility to eliminate criminal activities. Death penalty is one of the ways that Americans believe to be serving its purpose. There are some crimes in the world that can only receive justice through the death penalty. The issue of the death penalty has raised a lot of debates.
Undoubtedly, executions are mostly considered to be ultimate punishments for crimes such as rape and murder, this is because there is no retraction of death. Death penalty is the best way to demonstrate vengeance for horrific crimes. This reasons are mainly based on emotions but not logic (Marzilli 18). Members of the family of the victim are mostly affected by the actions of the offender, and the only way to make them feel better is by making the offender undergo a death penalty. For example, based on a personal experience I lost my sister to murder, after begging them for life but they shot her. The effects of the incident are so horrific, of which it affects the life’s of those affected. Hence, death penalty is one of the consolations to the relatives and family of the victim.
Conversably, prisons are there to serve tree important reasons, which include separation of criminal from the public, act as a form of punishment, as well as rehabilitate the offender. Hence, prisons are for those offenders who will at one point join the society again. This implies that it is not for people who will stay in prison forever. Therefore, death penalty serves the purpose. Additionally, imprisonment of offenders costs the prisons a lot of money. The cost of imprisoning individuals for life is very expensive, and a waste of taxpayers’ resources; hence, death penalty is the solution. In fact, the cost of appealing cases is also expensive, as compared to that the death penalty is cost effective (Bren 5).
The safety of the society is very crucial. As a matter of fact, criminals who face the death penalty are most dangerous and violent. Hence, the security and safety of guards and prison workers is put at a risk. In case of any escape, the entire neighborhood will be at risk. Logically, death penalty eliminates the offender forever and guarantees the society safety. Death penalty also serves the purpose because it deters criminals in the neighborhood from killing. Certainly, death penalty sends off the offenders from the society. Furthermore, it is a warning sign to those individuals planning to commit the same crime.
Committing murder is an extreme offence that in one way or another requires extreme punishments. The logic in this case is that severe crimes require severe punishments, whereby the only severe punishment is the death penalty (Bren 21). The policy of eye for an eye is most preferred in this scenario; it implies that the best and valid punishment for murder are death. In terms of religion, other believes that the death penalty was instituted by God, especially to those individuals who commit murder. Generally, death penalty is a long term solution to horrific crimes because the offender is eliminated in the neighborhood forever.
On the other hand, those who are against the death penalty base their argument in morality, justice and freedom. Death penalty is always a humane act, even when it is undertaken on a criminal it will not be justifies. Additionally, it violates the rights and freedom of human beings. Perhaps, whereby execution has been carried out on innocent people. In addition, those who oppose argue that the death penalty is painful and takes the role of God. In that, it is absolutely wrong to take other people life because they murdered. Research shows that the death penalty does not reduce the level of poverty. Conclusively, despite the forces against the death penalty, it still serves the purpose. The government of United States should adhere to people opinions in administering justice. Based on my real life effects and situation I believe the death penalty is effective and fully serves the purpose.
