Summary:
The ongoing of oil and gas boom has affected by three factors which include national security, jobs and ancillary simulative effect on other industries. The natural gas and oil production has significantly enhanced the image of these three factors in the United States especially in Texas. In terms of the rate of unemployment and jobs, Texas has outperformed the economy of the national and this has occurred on since the beginning of the Eagle Ford Shale play and the Great Recession (John & Sons, 2010). From July 2009 to June 2011, 49% of employments in the United States were created by Texas. The jobs were either indirectly or directly since the rise of the recession in 2007, employment has increased up to 40% in the gas and oil field. The low pricing of natural gas has attracted into creation of industries like chemical, cosmetics, fertilizers, and plastics industry (John & Sons, 2010). The United States shipping industry is also experiencing a boom of demand increases to move liquefied natural gas and oil and the shipment of the crude oil is done by vessels flagged in the U.S. Port of Houston has become the United States’ top export market surpassing the port of New York City since the mid-year of 2003.
My opinion
I agree with the article. It has analyzed the cause of the increase in employment in U.S due to the boom of natural gas and oil in Texas. The job opportunities created offer employment to the people in the locality. This has in turn boosted the economy of the respective places. It has also improved national security in the U.S.
