Labor relations play a vital role in ensuring the efficient utilization of labor resource within an organization. Efficient utilization of the labor force in turn leads to increased productivity as well as enhanced quality of the end product that will be produced by the work force. It should be appreciated that labor relations are constituted by a variety of aspects that are used to define them. Labor relations can be viewed from the economic, cultural, legal, gender-related as well as the ethnic perspective (Budd 150). The labor relations are also dependent on the nature of the labor that is in consideration. For instance, indentured labor, self-employment, informal labor, agrarian or even casual labor. This paper seeks to bring to clearly bring out the relationship that exists between the labor relations and the public sector. The paper will discuss the different aspects of labor relations that exist that directly influence the public and the effect that they have on the public. The paper will also seek to expose the nature of the labor relations as well as the means that are required for the management of matters that are related to the labor process within the organization. The role of the employers as well trade unions in labor relations is also considered and discussed. It will be noted that the government is the major regulator of the relationship that exists between the employers, employees and the trade unions. The three parties coalesce to determine the labor relations that exist.
Labor relations refer to the study which involves the practicing and management of people who are under an employment status that is covered by a union. The significance of labor relations to the public sector is numerous. To begin with, there is uninterrupted production in the organization. The uninterrupted production ensures that maximum output from the organization can be achieved within a specified amount of time. This ensures that the public is satisfied in the sense that the goods being produced are in constant and ready supply. Additionally, a continued production serves as an indicator of efficient processes (Sloane & Witney 100).
Good labor relations lead to a less probability of disputes occurring within the industries. The disputes experienced within the industries represent a failure in the basic requirements for proper motivation of the workers. Such a tension also indicates the lack of an adequate satisfaction among the workers. For the public sector, such inconsistencies could be received and interpreted as a lack of proper management in the industry. Such could lead to strikes or even boycotts.
The public also expects the workers within a particular industry to be highly motivated and work at high morale levels. The public shares in the opinion that the workers should not be frustrated at their works but to be content that the work they do motivates them to carry on and perform better. A highly motivated work force leads to increased productivity as well as a conducive environment for carrying out work.
There is reduced wastage in the organization whenever the labor relations are favorable. This is because the workers at the industry will be able to maximize the resources towards a favorable output. This is in contrast to a scenario where there are poor labor relations within the industry.
There is also a mental recoup and revolution of the workers along industries where the labor relations are in order. A mental revolution among the workers and the public changes the perspective of the public. This will ensure that the industry products are accepted by the public and the quality of the product is maintained. Additionally, the productivity from a company with workers with the right perspective is high.
The public sector determines the rating of the products from a particular industry. A negative attitude from the public towards a particular industry in relation to its workers can influence the public’s acceptance of its products. A bad rapport between the industry and the public will lead to losses that will reduce the profitability of the industry products.
In the production that involves secondary or primary goods as well as the services the employers are usually faced with the challenge of organizing labor processes in order to maximize the profits, reduce losses as well as enhance competition of the company against other rival companies. The public conception of the company will thus determine the acceptance or rejection of the particular product within the market. It could also lead to industrial strikes and boycotts in the event that there is dissatisfaction within the public on the labor relations that are implemented by the particular company or organization.
In conclusion, it can be surmised that good labor relations are the basis of a high level of output in terms of productivity at the lowest costs. This will also ultimately lead to higher profit gains. It can then be concluded that the public relations have a direct consequential relationship on the output of the company.
