Divorce has become a trending topic around the world because of many cases of divorce. If the trend continues, at least 50 percent of marriages are going to end in divorce. Divorce is a legal right that terminates a marriage and the legal rights and obligations between married couples. Divorce has become a common phenomenon across the globe and it is affecting many parents and children (Clarke-Stewart 12). There are several causes that can lead to a divorce as well as a lot of effects resulting from the divorce.
There are many causes of parent’s divorce since marriages do not end for the same reason. One of the causes of divorce is infidelity. Marital infidelity is said to be the most common reason for divorce. Infidelity causes a serious and irreparable harm to the spouse which ultimately leads to a divorce. There are many cases of infidelities amongst married couples which turns into a blasting fuse of war that later on leads to a divorce. When a husband or a wife indulges in an extra-marital affair, it becomes a big blow to any marriage and as always, the harm is irreparable, therefore, the marriage ends in a divorce. Infidelity in a marriage is a clear symbol that, there is a problem in a marriage, and if the problem is not solved, definitely, the marriage ends up in a divorce.
The second significant reason that can lead to a divorce is lack of communication between a husband and wife. Communication is a vital key in any relationship/marriage, and a marriage can be on the rocks if the line of communication between the couple fails. Married partners can never have a good relationship in addition to understanding each other if they are not able to communicate effectively and share their feelings. Therefore, if partners lack a healthy communication, it will be difficult to resolve issues arising in their marriage which can later on lead to divorce. Married couples should be able to talk about their feelings in marriage in order to figure out how to make their marriage work, and if these issues are not discussed and solved amicably, the marriage might end up in a divorce.
Another serious cause of divorce is financial issues. In most marriages, many conflicts can be brought up due to financial issues, for instance, unemployment of one partner, unequal financial positions, and overspending of one partner. The above factors can cause unending issues and disagreements between married couples thus leading to lack of financial support for one spouse. When this happens, many couples end up going for a divorce because they feel that, they cannot stay with the other person. For instance, in the case of unemployment, the employed couple will always despise or blame the unemployed couple for the financial constraints in the family, which can later on ruin the marriage. In addition, in the case of unequal financial positions, especially for women, they will keep on despising and intimidating their husbands, something which can also ruin the marriage too. Therefore, financial issues are a possible cause for divorce between parents.
Parents divorce not only has a number of causes, but it also has several effects both on the parents and on children. The biggest effect of divorce is on children if the couple has children. Children turn out to be the most affected when their parents divorce because, they will not be able to experience parents’ love and guidance from both parents. Many kids who live with a single parent because of a divorce will always end up indulging in devious behaviors due to lack of parental guidance from both parents. Children are affected in their studying, their normal life, and even their self –esteem when their parents are divorced, and some even end up dropping out of school. Children from divorced parents are psychologically affected, and parents should not only think of their own feelings, but also put their children’s’ interests at heart.
Another noteworthy effect of divorce is on the parents. It is convincing that, after a divorce, the parents’ daily life changes drastically (Clarke-Stewart 69). First, if children are in the picture, it will be very hectic for one parent to raise the children due to maybe financial problems. Divorced parents will face additional responsibilities and roles, predominantly, in regard to the care of their children. Moreover, the divorced parents are emotionally affected and this might lead to many health problems, for instance, depression, ulcers and even anxiety disorders.
In conclusion, divorce has become a trending issue in the current world. Even though there are many causes and effects of divorce, infidelity, financial issues and lack of communication are the main causes of divorce. Infidelity is one of the major causes of divorce and many parents are separating because of extra-marital affairs. Communication is a vital key for any relationship/marriage and without it, this will not work well. Furthermore, when a family faces a financial crisis due to different issues, it can also lead to divorce because of lack of understanding between the couples. Both the parents and children are affected by the effects of divorce, therefore, parents should think rationally, before ending their marriage in a divorce.
