There are various issues in this society that can be controlled if the education system of US will be changed by using effective and efficient strategies. A well-designed education system is necessary for the growth of a country and individuals. Therefore, the education system is getting better with time. However, there are people who are being affected by racial differences, poverty, and disabilities. Within the education system, mostly Asian, African, and Latino Americans experience inadequate services. For example, students with disabilities are not provided equal opportunities for sports. Moreover, appropriate skill development programs are also required for disable students according to their abilities and mental condition. Thus, with some action plans, there is a possibility that the education system for students with disabilities will be changed for better, and it will be able to deal with challenges. For that, in this paper, we will analyze XYZ Institute of Special Education for disable children and possible steps will be suggested to bring improvement in their current system.
The XYZ Institute of special education from disabled children is one of the popular public education schools that are working with the collaboration of the great schooling system of the US. The goal of this institute is to provide free and appropriate educational programs or related services to the students with disabilities. Moreover, they aim to provide activities that foster social development among children with disabilities. However, it is being noticed that the minority students such as Asian, African, and Latino Americans are not welcomed much at this school.
The school admin prefers Whites to these minorities. It is the reason that these students with disabilities are impacted more than whites. Although, these minority students are there in this XYZ institute but the school policy clearly states that due to the availability of limited seats Whites who are citizens of US are more welcomed as they have more rights than other minorities to avail facilities in their country. Therefore, whites are preferred over any other race, and it clearly shows that this institute is doing racial discrimination.
The stakeholders of this Institute are aware of this fact, and they believe that there is nothing wrong with this policy as they are giving the opportunity to everyone but those who are the citizen of US deserves to get admission at first. Moreover, it is a belief that disabled children of immigrant families are more emotionally disturbed and mentally retarded than whites (Florian and McLaughlin 49).
Furthermore, it is also noticed that there are no equal opportunities provided by this institute for sports to the disabled students. It is the reason that the education of disabled students is provided in a restrictive environment that is not enough for the appropriate skill development of these children. It is also noticed that not providing the sports opportunities is also impacting the aim of this institute that is to foster social and skill development among disabled children.
It should be noted that Federal civil rights law suggest schools to provide equal opportunities to all students whether they are from minorities or disabled. It will not be incorrect to state that issues like racial disparities and lack of appropriate skill and social development programs are impacting the positive outcomes of XYZ institute. It is the reason that such disparities are not allowing the institute to achieve its targets. Therefore, to bring rapid improvement change in their policies are required and for that civic engagement action plans can work. Therefore, the power of stakeholders must be utilized as this inequity is due to the agreement of stakeholders.
It is a matter of fact that the purposes or goals of any institution must be designed for the betterment of the society. All the institutes and organization must be cautious about their acts and respect different cultures. For institutes of public education, it is necessary for the management to ensure that the ‘outcome from their institute should be for the betterment of the students and society at large. The schooling years of a child’s life can teach children a lot and things learned during these years remain with them for their entire life.
Children face a lot of issues at a school like bullying, but the management of school can control such things through strict inspection. It is difficult for the students to face issues at a higher level when the school management is involved in discriminating between children belonging to different race and cultures. Before highlighting the civic actions that can be taken to have an effect on change, it is necessary to discuss what should be the main purposes or goals should be of public education.
Racial discrimination is very common, and many people suffer from it at schools. Many students belonging to different race and culture are not even given admission at school that is a very disturbing act and must be avoided at all cost. The discrimination amongst a certain race stops people from (belonging to different cultures and race) availing better education (Solanke 167).
The public institutes by doing such acts create a barrier for such people. The discrimination is not only because of racial differences between the people but people with disability are also categorized as a minority and are not given an equal chance to participate. It is a right of every child to be educated regardless of his/her color, ethnicity, or disability. The disabled children are discriminated as they have to take some extra courses to be a part of that school. It is a hideous act if the school management makes different rules for different people. All the policies and public educational institutes must have same policies for every individual. An institutional governing organization should monitor the acts and policies of the school so that discriminating policies can be eliminated from public educational institutes.
The main power is in the hands of stakeholders as they can make amendments to the laws and policies of the school. If such changes are positive, then they shall be accepted and implemented. Usually, some changes are made in the policies that are biased and are mostly led by an occurrence of an event. The policies within the school that are bias should not be entertained. The change in public education is necessary and much needed because the current working conditions have several rules and policies that discriminate against children who are unethical.
The main purpose or goal of public educational institutes should be to ensure that all the student should have an equal opportunity to learn. All the students must get a fair chance to take benefit from education. If the students are treated equally in all forums, then they have a much better chance to succeed in their career. Therefore, it is necessary that all the public educational institutes should have one common purpose that is to provide equal opportunities to all students to avail quality education. All the institution must adopt changes in their policies but only if they are for the betterment of the children and the society. If the changes made affect anyone in the society, then such changes shall be avoided or amended.
The action taken against the public education institute shall be simple and effective. A complaint shall me made against them so that the concerned authorities can take action against them. An Equality Act 2000, defends the rights of every citizen and allows them to be treated equally as others. An action must be necessarily taken against the public educational institutes so that such institutes do not differentiate between children.
The action of making a complaint against the public educational institutes reflects the responsibility of civic engagement as by doing so, and a step has been taken against the institute. The action taken by the authorities will stop such institutes from discriminating and making changes that are negatively impacting some people or a particular race. Social justice is addressed through this action as this action helps the society to be a better place. The action of making a complaint is for the betterment of the society and all the people living in it.
Democracy is also reflected through these actions as everybody will be an equal chance if the public institutes work responsibility and provide equal opportunities to everyone living in the society. It is the right of every citizen to get a quality education so that everyone can succeed in future and make a better living for himself or herself. It can be concluded that every citizen to observes injustice must report it to concerned authority so that such incidents can be avoided in future.
