I do not think so that companies should be allowed to use our personal information without our knowledge. The major issue here is the usage of information without user’s permission. There might be certain information that I may want the online companies to know. This would help them to serve me with their services that are according to my preferences. But I would not like to share my financial transaction information or my shopping information to any third person. As these are some information, that I may only want to keep to myself.
Ethical issues associated with this matter are, the breach of consumer’s privacy, websites tracking information without knowledge which may amount to cheating, handling of that information to criminal sources, exploitation of the information at users disadvantage and the list goes on. Breach of trust by extracting user’s information is not a right of free enterprise, as even in the free enterprise the consumers have rights to keep their information limited to other sources.
