In a human being’s growth and development, various stages are prevalent, which feature a myriad of behaviors as well as perceptions from the society. These stages in human’s development include the prenatal stage, the childhood stage, the adolescence stage, adulthood stage and finally the old age. Although there are identifiable traits that human beings depict in each of these stages, it is prudent to note that not all experiences are shared. Particularly, the adolescence stage of human development strikes as a very important part of a human being’s life. The adolescence is the stage where humans move from childhood to puberty and prepares one for the adult stage. This paper will focus on a close analysis of an adolescent girl who has been through several wrong turns in life. The patient has been betrayed by people she thought would offer her a solid foundation in her young life. Following the betrayals she has been subjected to, the young lady has developed problems in developing a sense of identity or developing trust in any one.
The girl under study is sixteen years of age therefore qualifying to belong to the adolescent stage of human development. The girl was placed in a foster home at an early age of 12 years after she was overly neglected by her drug addicted parents. The foster home parents promised much initially treating her as they queen until the man of the house started making sexual passes on her. The foster father regularly abused her sexually until as the school guidance and counselling teacher I came to learn of her situation. Sexual harassment from a man who she thought would be in the front line to protect her rights was traumatizing moment such that she was at a dilemma not knowing who she would look up to. She had already lost trust inn everyone. This was a case as a social worker I had to approach with ultimate care, trying to ease the trauma the girl was undergoing. Furthermore, it is understandable that such a girl who became sexually active at an early age could be at a higher risk with other men who make crosses at her. Meanwhile, some of the most viable treatments for such a case include but not limited to mode deactivation treatments, desensitization and reprocessing of eye movement, art therapy and time-limited same-gender groups.
Eventually, I feel the girl should engage in several educational social policies such as engaging diversity in her choice of friends to be able to learn others and understand their problems. By understanding that other people have undergone several ups and downs in life, the girl will learn to move ion and prosper in the new home that we shall provide for her. Additionally, my ability to critically analyze a situation and communicate professional judgment will be an added advantage to the girl since from me, she will be able to express her worries and experiences. Being a good listener will help her gain justice and accept what has happened should be buried in the past. For the community, it is a tendency to view such girls as outcasts and this may affect them adversely. Lucky enough, the ale dominated world is changing and some will support her and ensure justice is served accordingly to punish her foster father. The girl should gain awareness of the critics in the society and learn to avoid their effect on her personal life especially mentally and studies. Through sound counseling sessions, the girl will eventually recover from the trauma.
