REVIEW: Summarize the consequences of pubertal timing for adolescent development.
Adolescence is considered as a transitional phase, that effects on a child’s physical and psychological development. The condition in the adolescence period and puberty differs in different countries and also in one country due to the influence of different cultures within one country (Newman, & Newman, 2011).
When adolescent development is studied, it comes to more clear understanding that because adolescence is the hormones are affected due to puberty in such an age. As this is related to mind, science and also the physical body this topic is being studied in Biology, Psychology and Anthropology too in order to understand completely what the problems are there that are being faced by children like in such an age speaking up for yourself is difficult. This age creates a distance in between the child and parents and this distance is what we will study in the article, why do children distant from their parents during this phase and also the moodiness that they face (Berk, 2001).
When talking about puberty the first thing that anyone gets in their mind is moodiness, when a child is small he is happy, plays all along with other kids and is not shy of the opposite gender. But when a child comes into the teenage there are certain things that will change in their personality as well as their behavior. There are some psychological and also physical explanations for this includes the hormonal changes or hormonal imbalance in the body of these teenagers.
These mood disorders can be very extreme as in for a minute they are happy and talking to you in a light tone and then suddenly they start shouting and become furious even they also don’t know why they do so. This is because of the hormonal imbalance leading to unstable mood and also instability in the emotions (Newman, & Newman, 2011). As they also lose the thought that when to express and also where to express their own feelings. This is such a feeling that they want to be a baby and not to grow but as they have no other choice they start to freak out and become stressed out about how they will manage to grow up unprotected.
This moodiness also results in less eating, less talking or less sleep, they find themselves happy when they are alone, usually at this age children start to listen to music as they feel that music is an escape for them from the world. They will start to neglect their parents orders, they will not talk to them much, and the reason is that they are afraid of growing up and leaving their parents as in the western countries at the age of 18 children take their own homes and live independently and where in eastern countries the fear of getting married and being away from parents is what stresses the child out most of the times (Berk, 2001).
The distance in between the parents and the child is due to the an imbalance in hormones and also due to the stress that they are in. some of the parents will understand such difference in behavior but others will react in the opposite way that also makes a child rebellious and that makes them think that nobody cares for them as for this is what I have experienced too in this phase. Socializing doesn’t feel good, better to stay alone, thinking as if parents are their enemies, there isn’t any escape from growing up, running away from responsibilities these are some of those characteristics that are found in between the adolescence period. There are certain things that parents should do to avoid such an attitude of their child as for making them their friends and talking to them about anything. This is also an age where there is much of an attraction towards the opposite gender and emotional instability also leads towards wrong deeds, so keep a check on your child in this age isn’t a bad thing (Newman, & Newman, 2011).
This paper has examined adolescent development that occurs during the puberty to the adult periods in majority. This occurs during the teenage period of most of the population. What I have concluded from this research and also from my personal experience puberty and adolescence are just phases that you pass through, but there are certain events or things that leave a mark on your life, this is a phase in which one doesn’t have a clear understanding of what they are doing and also they get distant from their parents, and this is what makes the parents worried, but they should take corrective measures to avoid this. This is a phase where moodiness takes over, less usage of your mind and also the changes in harmones are blamed the most so for all this phase to go through smoothlyparents should actually communicate more or less with their child. This phase also results in problems when the child doesn’t understand what is actually happening in the body and mind. All this should be told them at an age where they can easily understand, as parents know better to tell them and this age will get all along if worked out on it together.
