National union convections are very necessary for the members. These conventions are made from time to time when there is need. There are various reasons why national union conventions are made. In the first place, the members need to know the performance of labor union executive. The executive is established to serve the needs of the members of the union. Therefore evaluating their performance is important (Sloane, 2010).
It is in these conventions that the members of the union are able to elect new executive. The people are able to elect new leaders who are to lead them in the following year. If the previous executive has been performing well, then the members of the union can re elect them back. The board of directors is also elected during the convection (Holley,, 2019).
The convections are important in that the members are able to present their problems to the leaders of their union. Employees reveal the working conditions and propose the need to negotiate for changes. When these problems are presented to the labor union, then the leaders in the labor union take the initiative to negotiate for better terms of employment (Sloane, 2010).
Generally, union conventions are very important in that they help employees meet their union leaders so that they can inform them problems that they have not yet addressed. The employees are also able to evaluate the performance of union executive so that necessary measures can be taken to put in place active executive (Holley,, 2009).
Democracy is usually exercised in the conventions. New executive is elected if the existing one has completed its term of service. People exercise their democratic right in voting. People willing to compete for the various seats also have the democratic right to do so.
