Ceasar Chavez is one of the important Latino leader in the history of the United States. He dedicated his entire life in helping others. Ceaser Chavez worked in various field and he was an American labor leader, civil rights activists, as well as a farm worked. Ceasar Chavez was born in the year 1927 and died in 1993. He was the second born in a family of six siblings. His parents were Juana Chavez and Libado Chavez (Stavans, 2010). His family had a piece of land, which came to an end due to the great depression. They moved to California as migrant farm workers and this is where Ceasar gained is farming experience and management.
In 1942, Chavez decided to quit school yet it be his final year. These is because he did not want his mother to work in the filed anymore. It was during this time that he decided to be full time worker in farms. He served for two years in United States Navy, which gave him a lot of training and experience that could be relevant later in life. After military, he married Helen Fabela and was blessed with eight children.
In 1952, Chavez joined Community Service Organization and became one of the important organizers in the Mexican American society. He focused on issues related to economic discrimination, voter registration, as well as fighting racial discrimination. At one point, he became the executive director of Community Service Organization. It was through his leadership that he managed to help its members of tax problems and immigration issues. Ten years later, he founded National Farm Workers Association (Stavans, 2010). It was through the association that he advocated for higher wages and good working condition. NFWA was later called Union farm Workers. UFW organized a major strike that saw many workers boycott and strike. The workers gained strength and received high wages and more bargaining power.
Chavez also believed in animal rights, and for this reason he was a vegan. He was also a Christian and believed in fasting as a way to strengthen his spirituality and faith. Before the end of worker's strike, Chavez was recognized nationally (Stavans, 2010). In his entire life, Chavez believed on non-violence as a powerful way of bringing change. Chavez received awards and recognition for his powerful leadership. Ceasar Chavez day is celebrated in California to honor Chavez work and life.
