As a nurse, I will introduce nursing informatics as the required change in my organization. Nursing informatics entails the integration of the science of nursing, the computer technology and information science which guarantee quality service delivery in a health organization.
An outline of the steps that I will use to initiate the change in my organization
i. Make a call to action- as a program director I will convince the organization that change is needed.
ii. Developing a reasonable consensus to all workers in the organization
iii. Get organized by ensuring am down to specific on what the change needs
iv. Develop a concrete plan that will be used to implement the nursing informatics
v. Actualize the planned changes by delegating the roles to all the involved staff as proposed by the committee
vi. Make a decision of whether the change was worthwhile to the organization. Did it accomplish the objectives, mission and vision of the firm
vii. Sustain the change if it was well implemented in the organization.
How to deal with resistance to change
The following explains how I will deal with the resistance to change. I will ensure all the involved stakeholders are active and fully participate in the implementation. Listen to the employees and look for the trends in the resistance. Host or attend meeting that discusses the importance of the change. Be prepared by practicing the new behaviors before implementation takes place. Motivate the staff and be there role model in the introduction of the change. Always be on the frontline to address any conflict that may arise and reward the most participative agents of change.
Different conflict resolution strategies
Boundary-setting, compromise and collaboration strategies are some of the strategies that are involved in conflict resolution. Each strategy is however applicable in different situation. Consideration to be made while undertaking the strategies involves time, participants, parties’ relationship and differences of participants.
Compromise strategy involves no less than two parties giving up something, for instance ego, to acquire something else in return. On the other hand, collaboration entails taking progressive approach to resolution. People differences are viewed as strengths, all parties are involved, and delay in quick decision is valued and enhances 100% satisfaction to all parties. According to the boundary-setting strategy, I am supposed to unconditionally examine the extent to which I can feel and express acceptance, love and respect to others.
Which do you find yourself resorting to in most conflict situations?
Do you think that is the most effective strategy for you, or would your conflict resolution be more effective if you used some other strategy?
I prefer boundaries to be most effective strategy in conflict resolution because in some cases it performs better than rules. Rules are typically win-lose scenario while boundaries applies win-win situation in conflict management. However, this strategy could work better if it is associated with other strategies such as communication. As a nurse, I have to maintain ordinary positive with the people around me in order to enhance effective communication on my boundaries before the strategy is violated. I should clearly stipulate the boundary-setting strategy to the patients and my colleagues so as they can have better understanding of the strategy structure. Therefore, supportive strategy is required in order to achieve effective conflict resolution.
