Clinical goals and objectives
In the recent past, there has been a heated discussion on the training and general placement of nurses in health care facilities in United States .In this discussion, the quality clinical placement experience has been put under a sharp focus on whether our nurses really use this time to learn and gain hands on experience. Thus, clinical placement avails nursing student an opportunity to observe role models, develop skills and problem solving abilities and have a chance to practice and reflect on what they see and see. Also, as they engage in 20 contract hours, it is very important for nursing masters’ student to integrate theoretical framework that is provided in medical schools with realities of nursing practice. It is important therefore to examine clinical goals and objectives during clinical placement for nursing students (Levett-Jones & Bourgeois, 2010).
Clinical goals
The clinical placement program period was designed solely to assist nursing graduates with proper skills and necessary knowledge to work in our healthcare system. During this period, all learners are required to achieve the set objectives and clinical goals of the program. First, students are accorded the chance to apply theory to patient care by performing safe therapeutic interventions. Besides, the nurses to be identify problems and solutions by understanding the nursing process. Also, providing a safe and direct care within the ethical and professional standards by using evidence based practice (Levitt-Jones & Bourgeois, 2010).
Another important clinical goal during this period is the ability to apply professional nursing behaviors by incorporating personal responsibility and accountability process. Thus, students are required to select and use proper strategies in interviewing, teaching and counseling of patients. On the other hand, listening and allowing time interval periods of silence for patients is a virtue that all nurses should possess.
Objectives of nursing placement
Clinical placement is a very important period for nursing student as it is a mandatory requirement before graduating from a medical school. In this period, the following objective must be fulfilled by all students during the 20 contract clinical hours. First, nursing students should strive and be proactive in seeking hands on experience and competence with the help of their mentors. In addition, students are required to ensure that clinical skills under each stage of the program are attempted under the supervision of the mentor (Smith & Seeley, 2010). Finally, during this program students should demonstrate their willingness to work as part of a big team in health care delivery and safe patient care.
