Progressive era happened in 1890s to the 1920s in the United States and was a time of political improvement and community activism. The main aim of the group was to purify the government by abolishing bribery through undercutting and revealing political machines and bosses. Achieving effectiveness in every region was the other aim of the progressive era in the United States. This was done by modernizing, application of scientific, remedial and engineering solutions in the older sectors. During this era Progressives worked hard to renew improvement in schools at the regional level. There was a dramatic increase in the number of students and new schools in the local level were opened. By 1940 a lot of high schools were opened in the United States and after 30 years later 50 percent of the population had acquired secondary school diploma. Sanitation and health was emphasized in the education with practical and hygiene education being taught in the neighborhood level. More medical schools were opened and renovated to promote the spread of health. Small medical schools were removed and they advocated for professionalized checkup schools with higher level.
