I have a beloved friend. Although he was not my childhood or next-door neighbor or class fellow yet, we became friends due to many similarities between us; most interesting among them were our physical features. Our college mates used to think that we were siblings. This very thing drove us even closer. It is Alan’s real story that dates back in 2012.
Alan McKinsey was a handsome boy from a well-off family. His mother was a manager at Wal-Mart retailers, while his father was working in the police department of America. They had a small family; comprising of only four but happy members. His younger sister’s name was Sarah, who had big blue eyes, pink petals cheek, and curly blonde hair. She was a very naughty kid who used to become friends with everybody. I was invited to her birthday party, and when I first saw her, I was amazed to see a cute, little, full of energy baby girl laughing and giggling as response to our tricks to her.
Being a very busy mother, her mother had no time to take care of her, so Sarah was her nanny’s responsibility. It was the middle of June 2012, when her nanny became sick and passed away. It was a shock for Sarah’s mother because she was very choosy about her selection for nannies. Sarah’s routine was greatly affected by this loss. Now the girl made it her routine to cry the entire day. Perhaps it was her former nanny who taught her to keep smiling all the time. Anyhow, now the family decided to hire a new nanny as soon as possible since her mother’s job was at stake. She had to remain awake whole night for a girl. My friend used to talk about the issue and even asked me to find them a good nanny as well. I had no clues about it, so I refused and did not bother about such trivial thing.
Selecting a responsible and trustworthy person for the baby became a big issue for them. As my friend’s mother was a penny pincher (though being filthy rich). She was not ready to spend a good amount on hiring a responsible and trustworthy caretaker. Honestly, I never understood this thing. Their previous employee was an old, widowed woman with no children or family, so she did not demand more money, and that was why she had been caring the child since day one. But now she was no more.
At last, when the problem became severe, Mrs. McKinsey appointed a middle-aged woman on an urgent basis. There was no formal interview taken or investigation done. She was so exhausted that the first candidate she met that day was hired for the baby. The responsibility of the new nanny called Mrs. Borisova was to take care of the child whole day, along with managing several other households too. In return, the nanny demanded a small room in their home and nothing else. Perhaps Mrs. McKinsey wanted such a person, so she agreed to her condition at once.
Everything was alright now. A week passed two and then three. The family never noticed anything wrong, mysterious or odd about the woman, but one day, the worst thing occur in the form of death of my brother-like friend and his only baby sister.
The incident happened when the family had to go out for dinner. They got ready at 8 PM and gave instructions to the nanny about their arrival time and others. She said okay and bade them goodbye. It was just a co-incident that Alan’s begun feeling bad for unknown reasons and apologized his parents for going with them. While he was returning home, he found every door locked from the inside. This was surprising for him; he knocked at the door, but there were no responses. He thought perhaps the nanny has gone to sleep, so he begun knocking even more. There was no reply again. In the end, he succeeded in jumping inside through a small window and what he found inside was unbelievable. His baby sister was cut into several small pieces; her hands, legs, feet, arms were all segregated. My friend was losing his senses, and before taking any initiative, he felt something penetrating into his waist. It was a knife. He lost his senses and did not remember what followed next.
We heard about the whole incident, the next day, and when I rushed to him in the hospital, I found him in ICU. He was counting his last breaths and was hardly audible. Yet he strove hard to tell us each and every detail that I have already mentioned.
Unfortunately, he could not fight back his wounds and left the world soon after 24 hours of this incident. The criminal was caught afterward, and police investigation shows that she was a psychotic woman, who had many complexes that joined together to make her a criminal.
These investigations unveiled the story of the criminal. She was a very poor, black woman. She was raised in slums and was always treated as a third-grade citizen of America. Her mother used to work to a filthy rich family, as a nanny. They used to curse her due to her color, race and social status. Mrs. Borisova never liked such treatment. She detested it but when she got married. Her husband also begun treating her the same way, as he was better in status, race and color than her. He left her after severe harassment and tried to kill even because it was the first time ever; she criticized him for his treatment. These incidents left deep marks on her brain and so she decided to take revenge. She made it her routine to get hired to a wealthy and rich family, live with them for some days and then kill the most beautiful person among them.
Her basic motives were both psychological and social due to the social mal-treatment and her own psychological condition. The issue of racism in our country plus poverty also gives birth to crimes like that. People’s individual complexes also make things worse. While the treatment lies in settling our social issues. Racism, social status consciousness and gender discrimination should be eradicated through respecting each other. Moreover, for psychological disease, doctors should help the patients fully after diagnosing symptoms in them.
The incident left a question mark on my mind which pinches my all the time, I always think what if it had happened with my sister and I? Being a human we must all work together to erase these gaps from the society to reduce horrible criminal offenses like this one.
