Deception means an act that aims to defraud others by misleading them to believe something which is totally false. I could think of an instance when deception could have been made possible. In social networking sites, a user could actually register using a different name and demographic details (age, gender, educational background, employment) and pose as a person with the given identity. Likewise, within the family, I remember telling my mother that I have finished all my assignments in school when I have partially complied with some or have not done any yet. These are examples of deception.
Normally, I believe that some scrupulous people intend to deceive others for illegal or immoral reasons. For instance, identify thieves were noted to be experts at deceiving through stealing personal information (SSS numbers, credit cards, bank accounts) and engage in illegal activities using these information. An example of illegal activities include applying for benefits using SSS numbers; purchasing products or services using stolen credit cards; and withdrawing sums of money from stolen bank accounts. In addition, another illegal and immoral activity that uses deceptive techniques are human trafficking where women or children are lured with the promise of work or compensation, when in fact, they are intended to be sold for various purposes: sex trade, forced labor, or even for sources of organ transplant. These are grave offenses and should be reported to proper authorities.
Overall, since the nature of deception itself was to lure others to believe in something
which is false or untrue, there is evidently something wrong and erroneous with the deceptive act. As the common adage goes, honesty and integrity is still the best policy.
