What passengers want from airline service:
A survey of airline passengers have revealed what services they expect from the airlines. Let us discuss them below:
Passengers have shown preference for more legroom and many of them alos want their seats to be roomier.
Airline travelers are averse to fee hike for the amenities provided by the airlines.
Passengers have revealed that they would show preference for the airline which provides them with Wi-Fi facility in the flight.
Since fees for checked In baggage is increasing with time most of the airline passengers carry on their baggage to avoid the checked in baggage fees. This has led to overburdening of the overhead bins. The passengers feel that every seat should have an assigned space in the overhead counter to keep their bggage.
Majority of the passengers prefer seats near the aisle.
Passengers are often annoyed with long queue for security checks and limited seating arrangement in the boarding area.
Can an airline satisfy wants of all passengers?
We have discussed the airline passengers’ expectations about airline services as revealed from surveys. In terms of economics we should stress that a consumer’s preference for any product or service can be revealed from the consumer’s willingness to pay for the service. In this respect it should be pointed out that though the leg space for the economy class is small business or executive class offers higher leg room. Most of the passengers availing airline travel are leisure travelers . They are mostly concerned about prices. If they had preferred more space for their seats they would have revealed their preference for more leg room by choosing the executive class. Thus the airlines do provide the required services but with a fee attached to it. The consumers preference for the services would be revealed if they opt for the service and pay the fees attached to it.
