The article was written after a research was done to answer a number of questions. The main purpose of the study is to come up with a system of copyright search training program. The research develops the training program using evidence and practices obtained from the copyrights that belong to the University of Saskatchewan. Therefore, the main research question: How can we develop a systematic copyright search-training program? The study used citation analysis and copyright analysis to develop a reliable copyright research-training program that can be used in all academic institutions. It is essential to note that the main aim was to develop a copyright search-training program for researchers in the University.
The study examines a number of specific objectives to obtain answers for the main research question. The first specific objective of the study is to determine if there is a growing need for copyright information. Secondly, the study aimed at establishing the key research fields in the University. Thirdly, the research was done to find out the common citation patterns in copyright documents. The last specific objective of the study is to find out the countries that had given the copyrights that are cited by the inventors.
The study used a number of methods to obtain relevant information. The researchers searched different copyright databases to find copyrights owned by the University . The copyrights were then scanned to determine citation patterns and the sources of the cited copyrights. A classification system was developed to help manage data obtained from the study. This is because of the large amount of data that had to be processed to make sense. The participants of the whole study were the copyrights that belong to the University.
The research did not have a well-defined control group. The study is done to develop a search-training program. The research used classification systems to ensure only relevant data was processed to obtain the results. The experimental group of the research is all the copyrights that are owned by the University. The classification system eliminated duplicate copyrights and classified the copyrights based on the year of publishing and source countries for cited copyrights.
A search in the Delphion database produced 352 copyrights in total. The duplicate copyrights were 186. An additional 50 copyrights were not included in the study. Therefore, the whole study used 116 copyrights from the database.
The research is uses action research design to complete the whole study (Creswell, 2003). The research is starts with one main problem, which is to develop a copyright search training program. The study seeks to understand the problem by looking at a number of specific objectives. The results obtained from the study were used to develop copyright search training program for the University. Therefore, the study develops a solution for the problem that motivated the whole study.
The research was carried out in an organized manner. The fact that it produces a viable solution for the problem is testament that it is a good research. The collection of information was based the relevance or connection to the University. Therefore, the research was bias in the sense that the study focused only on the copyrights that belong to the University. The biasness in the study is guided by the main study question, which specifies the University as the main area of study.
