Business
Dear Sir,
I have worked for Google for more than two years and during the course of my employment there, my employer has polished my knowledge and skills to a great extent. I have been provided with opportunities to learn from workshops and training and my skills have also undergone a major transformation. I was working at a managerial designation where I was responsible for not only managing my duties well but also look after an entire team. This also requires that I exhibit leadership skills. So Google wants me to learn how to improve my managerial and leadership skills through the course of Business 300.
In normal settings, the concept of manager and leader is overlapped and regarded as quite a similar one. However, the two concepts are entirely different. It is usually said that for being a manager, one does not have to be a good leader whereas the one who plays his role as a leader is certainly a good manager. This means that leadership is way beyond management and requires advance knowledge and experience. Management is all about ensuring that a manager makes the most of the available resources so as to get the tasks done by his subordinates. A good manager is able to achieve the goals which have been laid down as per the organizational policies and objectives. A manager is able to attain goals by making sure that the workforce contributes to the best of their skills and knowledge and bring a positive image to the organization. On the other hand, a leader is someone who motivates the workforce with the help of his strong personality, inner charisma and positive attitude. It has been mentioned by Goleman in the year 2003 that a leader usually has a vision and that vision is communicated to the organzitional employees through his words and actions. A leader truly inspires the workforce to attain objectives. A manager gets the task done whereas a leader motivates the employees to an extent that they are not only able to achieve the organizational goals but personal goals as well.
Google wants me to polish my leadership and managerial skills through this course. The course will not only teach me the basics of management and leadership but also specify the personality traits, level of education and training required to possess in order to exhibit excellent performance at work. The course will teach me how I can act as a source of motivation for the entire workforce. I will learn to take charge of my thoughts and actions. I will learn how to take initiative and set the vision for myself as well as for the organization I am committed to. I would also learn to make certain that I am capable of achieving the most difficult of tasks through my intellect and other soft skills (including time management and stress management). I believe the course will help me in grooming my personality such that I would be able to demonstrate a positive attitude. The positive attitude exhibited by myself at the workplace would inspire others to attain their goals by following a positive and task oriented approach.
Lastly, I would like to mention that my expectations from the course of Business 300 are very high. I expect to learn about the management and leadership in much detail so that I can perform effectively at the job and my employer, Google can be proud of me. I wish to groom my personality and acquire those skills and knowledge which make me stand out from the rest to the extent that every word I speak and every act I perform, acts a major source of inspiration and motivation for my coworkers and subordinates.
Thank you.
