Work place consists of diverse individuals with varied opinions and feeling about the activities performed by an organization. Effective management requires that all stakeholders of the organization be involved in every decision that the organization is planning to implement. In order to achieve this, managers and leaders ought to apply effective communication skills and proper management strategies Rai & Rai (2009, p. 37). This paper would discuss some of the communication skills and strategic management techniques that a management nurse would employ to realise an outreach program offered by a hospital targeting the needy members of the society.
An outreach program involves almost all stakeholders of the hospital such as the employees, the management, board of directors and the community the hospital is serving. The best communication technique that would get everyone on board is the two-way (Socratic) communication. The methodology is achievable using formal communication, informal communication and small group communication (Rai & Rai, 2009, p.72).
According to psychiatric Nursing (2013), in communicating effectively, the nurse must ensure that the objective and the purpose of the communication are clear, well planned and appropriate. She must not only use appropriate tools of communications but also apply effective communication skills like good listening, avoiding emotions, empathy, respect and decorum.
Balance Scorecard Institute (2014) asserts that, in addition to communication strategic management plays a vital role in the success of the project implementation it ensures that, the employees have a common goal with a common outcome; this would help in focusing resources and energy, setting priorities and strengthening of the operations. Strategic management would involve strategy formulation, where strategies are developed and documented, for example, how the strategy would be achieved the effect of the strategy on the community and benefits of the outreach program. Analysis of the environment, where the project would be executed the challenges the hospital would face in carrying out the activity, strategy execution where the documented plans and operations are carried out, and lastly the evaluation of the project’s progress (Sadle, 2003, p.17).
