Emotional intelligence is essential for being successful. Multiple factors are involved in emotional intelligence, all of which are important to improve our individual abilities. First, self-awareness is one of these factors. Self-awareness is recognizing my mood and understanding what it gives to other people. When someone points out a fault or a personality of people who don’t have enough self-awareness, they accept it as a personal attack and begin unnecessary self-justification. On the other hand, people who have enough self-awareness can talk about their weakness and their past failures easily. The second factor of emotional intelligence would be self-regulation. It is the ability to act in my long-term best interest and consistent with my values. Self-regulation is a necessary skill for a leadership. Leaders who lack this skill might cause internal strife which is very inefficient for companies. Finally, motivation is a part of emotional intelligence. Motivation guides and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. We need water and air and food for physical survival but motivation is necessary psychologically.
I understand from the reading that emotional intelligence is a very important factor in human behavior. For students, emotional intelligence is directly connected to academic performance and we need to consider and control it carefully. It is equally important when students leave education and go out into the world. I believe that emotional intelligence is an important skill to support our whole life. I have learned a lot about my emotional intelligence while acknowledging my faults at the same time. Lacking self-awareness and confidence I understand that I also do not have some abilities. I have never had a chance to think about myself and this will certainly be a good opportunity to understand more about myself. Moreover, self-regulation is still unclear for me so I think my essay is going to focus on my self- regulation.
