Millions of people who are using i-phone gadgets on a daily basis, but they have never known what the employees of i-phone company go through to produce those gadgets. Young men and women spend their 12 and more hours shift, six days a week in the process of preparing the gadgets ready for the market. These workers are exposed to toxic chemicals that are never disclosed to them by their employer (sumofus.org). Recent reports have exposed these unethical working conditions in apple’s Chinese supply chain (CNNmoney).
In a recent CNN segment, a worker of Foxconn a key iphone supplier, complained of the harsh working condition they experience in the company (CNNmoney). The company overuses its employees but offers less remuneration in return. It is impossible for an employee of such a great company to work for less than a dollar an hour. Being one of the companies that outsources its electronic products manufacturing across the globe, creating attention on the plight of apple workers across the globe will create a precedent for other tech companies (sumofus.org). Apple customers are shocked by the abusive working conditions in many of the supplier's companies.
There are many death cases of employees while making Apple products. These death reports occur due to explosions in the factories and exhaustion after working thirty-four hours continuous shift, making it sixty hours a week (sumofus.org). Many of the employees have attempted committing suicide because of bad working conditions. Apple Company has responsibility to change the growing perception on its customers that it does not care for its employees. It is appropriate for the consumers to push for equal treatment apple employees across the world. The petition by the consumers seeks push Apple Company, to eradicate the unethical practices they expose on their employees (CNNmoney).
