I will not tell my new employer the technology secret used by my former employer. I feel it is not ethical to share the company’s secrets with outsiders. The decision is not an easy one based on the fact that I was fired by my previous employer. I feel that by sharing this information, I will avenge myself and the other fired employees. In addition, the success of my current employer’s project will get me a promotion and pay rise. It is very tempting to reveal the secret of my former employer.
I have used the Front Page of the Newspaper Ethical dilemma resolution model to arrive at my decision. The Front Page of the Newspaper analysis enables a person to think of how his actions will be viewed by the public (ATL, 2014). The steps of the model include asking yourself how you would feel if your actions were to be published on the front page of the newspaper. If the answer is bad, then the actions are unethical. Another question a person can ask himself is whether he will be comfortable telling his grandmother about his actions. If the answer is no, then the action is unethical. The front page of the newspaper is an analysis model that enables a person to think about the reaction of the public towards his actions or decisions (ATL, 2014).
I decided not to share the secret of my former employer with my current employer because the public would not approve of my actions. A company’s secret enables the company to have a competitive edge. These secrets need to be protected so that the company can enjoy the results of its innovations. The public will not approve of my actions to disclose the secrets. I may lose my credibility, and other companies will not want to hire me because I may disclose their secrets. My current employer may also fire me because he is not sure whether I can keep his secrets. Based on this analysis, my decision is not to reveal the information I gathered from my former employer.
