Eugene Onegin is the masterwork poem of the Great Russian poet of all time in the name of Alexander Pushkin Meet my hero of romance, before you, let him now advance. Eugene Onegin, born and raised There beside the Neva’s shore, Where you too were nourished or Found your fame, perhaps amazed, there I too strolled back and forth: Though the North affects me so.
. This is an 1820 Russian encounter of three men and three women so enchanted in vicefull structures that they almost incompetent. Full of suspense, engaging and with a varied tone it tries to portray the larger Russian literary endowment and philosophical cum geographical endowment. Who is not bored with evasion, Tired of repeating platitudes, Bringing the science of persuasion To bear on things we’ve all eschewed, Hearing the same outworn objections,(chapter 4 pg. 11)
This poem is at the center of at the center of a young Russian who has his varied attitudes and habits Now, when Eugene reached the age Of restless youth’s tumultuous passion, Those years of hope and tender rage,
Monsieur was packed off in brisk fashion, and my Eugene was free at last, a London dandy safely classed His hair cut neatly a la mode,
. This young is bored of the daily bustle in town and decides to take a trip to the country side where he meets a jovial and passionate Tatyana. She falls in love with him but he rejects her. This is to emerge latter that as a gross error on his side which leads to a tragic love cum friendship story that makes Onegin a world class poem in Russian literature Some girl, delighted that he’s found her, Then disenchantment, bored desire, Yet bored again by conquest’s mire; Hearing in the crowd,
The major overriding theme in the works of Alexander Pushkin is the theme of love and affection. My goddesses! Where? Where are you? Listen now to my sad voice. Are you as you were? Have new Idols replaced you, a worse choice? Do I hear once more your choir sing?
This is achieved through the creation of an intelligent woman in the name of Tatyana who becomes a heroine and a symbol of admiration in the poem. This is characterized by her unselfish and understanding nature. You wrote to me, I broke the seal, I have read your letter. Don’t disavow it, I find here, a love that’s innocent, sincere. Your candour: that is dear to me, It brought to life, instantly, Those feelings, so long quiescent; That’s no ready compliment, All that you sincerely meant I’ll requite, with your assent: But hear my confession through, I’ll leave the verdict up to you.’ (Chapter 4 pg. 31)
Onegin does not consider yielding to a woman’s demands of love is the best way of winning her but considers it a man’s weakness. and after, in the sound, and silence cold, That sad protest in his soul, Stifling a yawn with laughter: Eight years he killed, hour by hour, Squandered youth, life’s finest flower. (Chapter 4 pg. 23) He justifies his rude reception of her confession by the claim that the less a man shows love to a woman who loves him is the best way of getting her. The less we show our love to woman, the easier she is to win, the easier to snare and ruin, in seduction’s net of sin. (Chapter 4 p.5)
This is the beginning of Onegin tragedy in the whole of his life in the country side and his arrogance towards life and his pride is much greater for him to apologize leading him to a number of uncounted tragedies. He commits murder in the duel and finally rejects Tatyana which is the cause of all his misfortune.
