In the contemporary society, there are various instruments that children received information. As a matter of fact, the learning environments natures children in various ways, and always make them grow knowing what culture, tribe, beliefs, and socialization is all about. Exposure to stereotypes is one of the main reasons why the world and the society today is diverse. The movies, television series, as well as video games plays a tremendous role in tainting the children's understanding of gender, race, culture, as well as the message it conveys. Due to the fact that many children have access to televisions, they are greatly affected by the television. In the contemporary society, children continue to be affected by the television series, movies and video games since it makes them be stereotyped at an early age. Exposure to stereotypes takes place in classrooms and outside.
The children learn a lot of things from television, these ranges from real life experience, norms, ethics, gender roles, culture, as well as racism. In most cases, television series exposes the black people of the African Americans has people who belong to the lower class in society. In addition, most of them are associated with crime and criminal activities. The whites on the other hand, are exposed through the television has people who belong to the upper class and live in a good environment (Newman, 2009). Children will automatically grow knowing that African Americans belong to the lower class. In addition, the television also associates Asian Americans with terrorism. Children will be forced to believe that Asian American is terrorists in nature. Watching these programs will teach the child that people of a certain race or culture life in a specific way.
The stereotyping on television can make children be unstable in a classroom and induces them with fear. When they always see this on television the child will grow knowing that what they is are facts and truth. In most diverse society, classroom have students from different religion, race, ethnic group, culture, as well as beliefs (In Slaughter-Defoe, 2012). Children have a chance to learn the reality in classroom, but the fact that they have watched more movie series become a barrier to normal socialization process. In addition, the stereotype extends to commercial teaching materials in various ways. The commercial teaching materials are placed in a manner that attaches a certain culture. Advanced teaching materials are associated with the White Americans.Hence, the stereotype goes beyond movies series and social media. There are various strategies to counter stereotypes in classroom room. It includes, teaching children that all people are equal, inform the child that what is in the movies is acting, as well as reduces exposure of children on television and social media.
