Dear Scholarship Committee;
My name is _____ and at this point in my life; I can truly say that I am ready to turn my dreams of becoming a Master Chef into my reality. I cannot allow my career goals and personal aspirations to remain stagnant or unfulfilled any longer now that I finally know what it is that I want out of life.
As one of the eldest of nine children, I have spent most of my adult life helping my elderly parents with my siblings. A great deal of work went into the care of one of my siblings in particular. This was my older brother Robert, who was born with severe Cerebral Palsy and mental retardation. Unfortunately, on September 30th 2010, I lost my brother Robert suddenly to cancer. Of course, I felt it was my obligation to stick close to my parents and do whatever I could to be of assistance to my family. My brother’s illnesses have shown me how short and precious life is.
When I was growing up, my parents had little or no income to contribute to my siblings’ or to my education. This was due to their financial situation at the time. Nonetheless, I have consistently focused on my nurturing abilities from being a big sister and have always taken this role very seriously. I took it upon myself to help my younger siblings with getting an education first and putting my dreams and goals off to the side. Even though I have always worked a full-time schedule to help with the household and medical expenses, I still looked forward to being able to attend school one day in the near future. I prided myself in being a good problem solver as well as a great student.
I was raised in Detroit, Michigan and I was taught from childhood about hard work, the importance of having an education, compassion, and respect for others. I can say that I pride myself on my work ethic and being a diligent individual. Ultimately, I became humbled to the fact that every day was another lesson to learn to the point where I would enjoy waking up just to see what the day had in store. Whenever I felt down I would always strengthen myself with the knowledge that someone was always much worse off than I was. This is a practice that I still use today. Not only do I embrace my path of recognition, I also channel all of my adversity into my motivation to excel in my future dreams and aspirations.
Undoubtedly, I have done a lot of soul-searching through the years to determine what I love to do, what I am good at, and what makes me happy. Not only has cooking always been a part of my responsibilities but, as an artist, I enjoy creating and discovering new recipes that others can enjoy and savior. I appreciate what goes into cooking and working within a kitchen environment. I am inspired by aromas, colors, and textures of food. I can wholeheartedly say that I never cooked in vein, but always with love! With that being said, I believe it would be very suitable to begin my career being educated in the French Culinary Arts.
At this point, I have done a lot of research on this career path, and I sincerely believe that I can forge a bright new future by becoming a Master Chef. I am very task oriented, and I do not expect the new challenge of becoming a Chef to be easy. I feel I can apply my past experiences and expertise in achieving this goal.
Today’s economy calls for all of us to be mindful of what we put our energy and efforts into. I am constantly mindful of the fact that everybody has an appetite and everybody needs to eat. Strategically, I would like for the next part of my life and career to be instrumental in the livelihood of others as well as my own. I have taken a great interest in the art of French Cuisine and would like to expand upon it. I agree that eating is a great component of life, and the knowledge of how to preserve life is of great interest to me.
Throughout my life, I have learned to not take anything for granted. I believe in earning everything I have. Having the chance to earn an education is just part of my process to becoming a greater person, sister, and student. I have taken on many jobs and career paths along the way to this conclusion. I had always excelled in my job duties but was never ever completely satisfied. Ultimately, I realized that I found great satisfaction in actually pleasing others. I strive to better myself and my future because I have consistently been a hard worker,. Nevertheless, no obstacle can be looked upon as too large when it comes to bringing out my potential. I am more than motivated, driven, and disciplined to be able to accomplish my life’s destiny. I will make it my mission to complete this culinary program and to excel and grow in my career aspiration as a future chef. I feel the hospitality field will be a very satisfying career option for me to pursue.
As you know, educational fees, tuition, and supplies are very expensive and present a huge obstacle for a student in today’s economy. Therefore, I respectfully request to be considered for your Scholarship Award. I will be greatly appreciative and work very hard to be worthy of any financial assistance toward the attainment of my greatest goal ever. I appreciate being given the opportunity to share my past, present, and newly-found future with you.
Thank you very kindly for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Sincerely,
