Introduction
Gun control is to decide who can own which gun under what circumstances and not to ban. Gun control becomes the most debatable topic because of the increase in crime rate due to misuse of guns or firearms. The laws for gun controls should regulate all the process of selling a gun that should start from manufacturing until considering the buyer. Nowadays, gun accidents and murders are common, and it induces many to welcome gun control laws and policies. Because they think, gun control may reduce the crime rate to some extent. Many people are supporting anti-gun control because they feel gun can be used for self-defense purposes in some critical situation. However, this is not the case with the gun users nowadays. If the gun is for personal use, then it should be only for self-defense and should not for revenging or killing others. This idea can be implemented by having strict laws for gun control. Gun control does not mean that no one should use the firearm, but it is to be limited. However, such gun control laws may affect people those who are using it for hunting, self-defense, or sports activities. These regulations can be implemented only through efficient laws that should regulate everything regarding the gun control. It is the duty of the lawmaker to regulate the law. Can guns be banned or can it be avoided? Guns are needed for self-defense, hunting, and sport activities. Therefore, it is essential to take preventive measures to reduce the crime rate and deaths due to inefficient gun users.
Deficiency of Gun Control Laws
A broader focus may possibly provide a good understanding the importance to enforce effective and fair laws. The second Amendment allows the citizens to possess the firearms, as it is a right of the individuals. Nowadays, gun laws become looser, and people start using it without getting license for using it, because a 16-year old girl or boy can own a hunter’s rifle with the proper license. People can buy firearms easily from the auction or in the black market. To reduce the crime rate, it is more important to take actions by implementing strict laws and regulations for gun control. Certain laws allow citizens to hand the firearm just for the purpose of self-defense as they can save themselves in some critical situation. However, people start using it to get rid of their mental agony by committing suicide or homicide. Is gun control good or bad? There is nothing to be worried about whether it is good or bad. While enacting law for gun control, it is to be considered whether gun control law is essential. Gun control law has to include an article to consider the person to whom and for what purpose license is given. Due to deficiency in gun control laws, people start misusing firearms that everyone is witnessing it through several gun accidents and incidents like mass murder of innocents at Sandy Hook Elementary. To put an end to all these gun violence, a drastic change has to be brought into the current laws of gun control and to implement those laws.
Social Perspective
Possessing guns may be the right of the individuals, but it affects the health of the society in the guise of mass murders, suicides, homicide etc. Many start accepting gun control after having seen many tragic consequences of firearms in the hands of the inefficient or people with mental illness. While talking about gun control, it is important to see it in the social perspective how gun control helps society to save people from tragic deaths and how it affects the authorized users who use the gun only for self-defense, hunting, or sports activity. Are guns responsible for the violence? No. The gun users are responsible for all problems. Several researches have proved that in many cases, guns are used as a weapon to commit suicide. This can be reduced only by restricting access to the gun. The killers used guns as their weapon to kill people in mass as we have evident several incidents in day-to-day life. Mass murders or homicides happen due to the mental instability of the person who uses the gun to get relieved from his/her mental agony. Therefore, it is necessary to know about gun and its purposes. Counseling should be given to the users before giving license as it helps to avoid using it for destructive purposes. As instituted in 1994 Brady Bill, it will take only five days to get a gun. The process of getting a gun is very easy. Even though background verifications are done before selling a gun, it will not show anything about the mental stability of the person who uses the dangerous gun. A mental screening test will help better to avoid handing the firearm to a frustrated, mentally disturbed, or challenged people. Due to frustration, these people react badly and become the victimizer for many innocent lives. Thus, their mental instability and meek mind of the users made them to do suicides, homicides, or mass murders when they in frustration. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a perfect and strict law of gun control to save society and prevent people from being victimized.
On the other hand, gun control may affect the users who use only for the purpose of hunting, self-defense, and sports activities. As per the Gun Owners Foundation survey, criminals usually avoid citizens who possess the firearm. This may be true because in this fast pacing generation, no one can rely on others for support and protection. The hunters and sports person will be affected who are highly in need of guns or firearms for hunting and sports activities. While enacting law for gun control, all these issues have to be considered to avoid hand it to criminals or to help the citizens who really need it.
Political Approach
For many years, gun control is a debatable idea; however, recent gun violence and murders have drawn it into the spotlight. Recent mass murders have taken the attention of political leaders to bring the issue to the top. The political approach on gun controls deals with the issue of laws and political organizations that surround the debate. The government has to amend critical laws regarding gun control. Current political system struggles to find the balance between freedom and security as gun control is the best example of these contradictions. As there are proponents and opponents for gun control, the government cannot take decision. It is evident that a proper decision considering gun control has to be taken to strengthen the regulations and laws on the supply and use of firearms, and license to hand guns. The government and political leaders have to enforce stronger laws to reduce the access to and supply of the firearms to the public. It will be helpful to lessen gun violence and deaths and to increase security, and freedom in the nation.
Humanistic View
Recently, a massive uproar for gun control has been created because of the tragedy that has happened at Sandy Hook school. Gun not only causes danger to the user, but also the others who become victim with or without the knowledge of the user. However, the result will be the deaths of many innocents. Gun control may affect the liberty of the individual. If there is no control for this rising threat, it will destroy the society at the larger. If the victimizer possesses a knife, he/she cannot attack many. If the person has a gun, he/she can do mass murder, and there is no possibility for the victim to escape. Gun is such a dangerous weapon that should be used only for self-defense or sporting. Otherwise, there will be no sign of human in the world if we keep on using these weapons for destructive purposes. Kids are being bullied at schools, and many people are assaulted for none of their mistakes because of these deadly weapons. Criminals will always find one way or other to do their mischievous. Gun control has to be implemented just to save the public from gun accidents, suicides, and homicides. The most tragic of this issue is that sometimes, there is a greater chance for kids to get the gun if parents fail to keep it on the safer place. While opposing the gun control laws, it is necessary for the citizens to consider all negative consequences that shatter many innocent human lives. To save the human lives and get a safer place to live, the gun control laws have to be enforced.
Conclusion
Gun control should be imposed strictly to prevent crimes and should be considered while selling guns for the purpose of hunting, self-defense, and sports activities. Guns become highly dangerous weapon in the world because of the consequences. The necessity of guns grows, but the negative values suppress the positive values of a gun. It kills lives, no doubt about it. Deadly weapons should be prevented from criminal use. This can be possible only by the severe gun control laws that may prevent gun violence to some extent. The nation will be the safer place only if the guns are in the hands of law. Even though not all crimes can be prevented, many lives will be saved because of the gun control laws. Guns spread like a contagious disease in the society as it cannot be eradicated totally but can be vaccinated to avoid spreading it. As gun control becomes the debatable and controversial topic, one has to consider all the positive consequences of the gun control to save our society and make the nation the safer place to live.
