The dance class has a total of seven dancers including the dance instructor. There are two dancers at the front. Two are at the center and two others at the back with the instructor stationed at the center of the two dancers at the front. All the seven together form a triangular shape structure that allows for free movement of all dancers and coordination of different dance moves. The arrangement is spacious creating room for the development of the routine. Dancers do not change positions throughout the routine though there are some few instances when the whole team moves around, or some dancers step aside and watch the rest of the group perform.
There is an observable good class etiquette characterized by dancers who respect each other. When not dancing, students watch politely and quietly applauding where credit is due. When not in a group routine in between little breaks, dancers practice their own moves and simply stretch out. There is keen attention given to the instructor and few instances of division within the group. Unity of movement during the routine indicates dedication to perfection and team support. New dancers are introduced at the beginning of the dance and are warmly welcomed and accepted into the team. The instructor gives all the dancers encouragement, attention, and appraisal. Dancers are in baggy street clothes with sweat pants and cotton shirts. They have their hair pinned up due to the numerous neck, head, and shoulder movement. Some dancers have sneakers on, though others are on bare foot and some in socks.
The Hip Hop routine in the video clip is a component of Modern Dance and it challenges the contemporary dance ideas. It represents a new branch that seeks to introduce new moves rather than a repetition of already established work. The Movement language is not based on ballet technique but rather on feelings, impulses, nature, design and sexuality, design (1993). The language of the dance in the routine can be compared with the language of the music. The dance routines are a critical component of the Hip Hop music genre in a relationship based on the language of movement and music.
The dance techniques builds with time as the dancers are introduced to new tasking moves with further progress into the routine. The instructor introduces new moves in steps indicating, signaling, and explaining change. Different moves engage different body muscles depending on complexities as endurance increases in equal measure over time. There are routines that specialize on arm movements as concentration is later on given to getting the footsteps right. Rhythm, continuity, and choreography improve over the stretch of the routine. Dance techniques at the end are more technical as they incorporate a lot of spinning and turning with back-to-back waste, hand, feet, and head movement that are professionally coordinated.
Dancers are continually adapting to different tracks and beats that varies the class and influences their moves and it varies the class a bit. Different types of music influences the dancers in varied ways, it evokes their feelings as they seek to express themselves through the music. Bold music for instance is accompanied by bold dance moves. This is essential to the dancers to help them connect with the theme of the music and to give a touch of sensuality to the routine. Dancers acquire the personality of the musicians in the different songs. If the singer sounds passionate and intrigued, dancers are equally passionate and are able to express the emotion in their moves. Dance moves, feelings, and emotions are in an almost combined state of delivery. Dancers are as a result able to communicate parallel with the musicians. It is not wrong to effectively state that dance routines are a form of reiteration and reinforcement of the messages conveyed in different songs. It is observed that dancers are in endless quest to acquire personality of the musicians in the song. The instructor effectively choreographs the Hip Hop routines to work with the different beats. Slow beats are matched with fitting moves and fast beats with faster paces.
The class ended with a repetition of the final routine as the instructor ensured all the moves were perfected and that dancers had familiarized with the routine. The wrap up is essential as a prerequisite of all routines. It is a form of test to gauge the progress of the students. There were instances in between music breaks before the final dances when the instructors stopped to demonstrate technical and complex moves to the students. As the instructor demonstrated in detail the difficult moves, students copied as they practiced individually before the music resumed.
