Arguably, the world in the 21st century is tremendously changing. As a matter of fact, information technology and media have become one of the influential factors, which changes the trends of relations and marriage. Various groups and organizations in the globe treat homosexual and heterosexual relationships differently, depending on the ideologies and beliefs. Moreover, cultures and government have influenced the way individuals view the relationships differently, In some countries it is legal to enter a heterosexual or a homosexual, whereas in other homosexuality is totally forbidden. In fact, there are activist groups that support homosexuality, and others are against homosexuality. Homosexuality has been controversial in many countries, and it seems this will not end any sooner. Studies show that there are differences and similarities between heterosexual and homosexual relations.
Contrary to famous beliefs, relationship quality and health is similar across heterosexual and homosexual partnerships. Certainly, the involved parties in both homosexual and heterosexual relations report identical degree of commitment and satisfaction to their romantic situation. In society, individuals assert that homosexual partners are mostly promiscuous. This can be a fact, but heterosexual partners are equally promiscuous. In both relations, stereotypic thinking dominates the definitions and analysis of homosexual and heterosexual relationships. People base their reasoning on traditional beliefs, norms, as well as what the media present (Lisa, 2001)
Conversably, issues of abuse in homosexual and heterosexual relation are a point of On the other comparison. In both relationships, domestic abuse is experienced in similar ways, although there is the possibility that men will experience abuse that is more sexual. The differences that exist in the level of domestic abuse in these relations reflect the gender norms that exist in that society. Hence, both relationships experience conflicts regardless of either it is heterosexual relationship or homosexual relationship (Lisa, 2001). Conflicts are part of human life, and this makes homosexual relations identical to heterosexual relations. In addition, it is argued that both partners in heterosexual and homosexual relationships are potential parents and can take care of the children. Hence, it should not be stated that homosexual adopted children will turn to be homosexuals in the future; this is because those who are homosexuals were raised and taken care by heterosexual couples.
On the other hand, there are some differences between homosexual and heterosexual relationships, which have raised many contentions. In the contemporary society, homosexual relations are viewed as perverted and unnatural. It is believed by many people that the only natural type of relationship is heterosexual. Moreover, it is argued that homosexual is unnatural because it does not dole out the core purpose of relationship, which is to procreate. Despite the alternatives such as adoption sperm donation and surrogates, homosexual and heterosexual relations will always differ on procreative factor.
Sex is also another issue that separate the heterosexual relations and homosexual relations. According to many people, homosexual relations lovemaking is a total perversion and more of pornographic act. For example, homosexual way of making love is anal sex, oral sex and use of toys, which seems to be unnatural. Sexual satisfaction and sexuality are fundamental issues of relationship that relate to durability and happiness. The issue of break-up is also experienced as a point of differences between homosexual and heterosexual relations. Homosexual partners tend to frequently break up, this is because there are few perceived barriers as compared to those in a heterosexual relationship. In this case, barriers may refer to emotionally and financial suffering after the break up. Hence, in case of a break-up, homosexual partners feel that they will lose very little emotionally and financially (Lisa, 2001).
Legalization and traditional barriers separate the two types of relationship. People just enter in heterosexual relationships so easily since it is legalized in the entire world. On the other hand, few countries have legalized homosexuality; hence, many people can only go into homosexual relations secretly (Lisa, 2001). Undeniably, roles in heterosexual relations are so much defined by culture and traditions. In a homosexual relationship, there is less pressure to adhere to roles, and it mostly occurs on equal footing. This factors are an advantage to the heterosexual relations, this is because it lowers the intensity of arguments as compared to heterosexual relationship.
Conclusively, there are similarities and differences between heterosexual and homosexual relations. The differences and similarities surround issues of sex, legalization, procreation and role execution. Perhaps, heterosexual relations are more open and accepted by the public, and can show their affection and love in public. Homosexual in many countries fear victimization and being ostracized. Generally, heterosexual relations benefit mostly on the sanctions that surround marriage, ethics, and law. Homosexual and heterosexual relation are still the most debated and controversial issue in the globe.
