The non-verbal communication is an implicit way of delivering a message when the communicator is explicitly using words or not. Non-verbal communications could be intentional or not but ultimately affect interpersonal communication and the quality of work produced in many ways (Alberts Et al.2012). When conducting group meetings to deliberate on how to forge forward with the group project, we constantly communicate; strategize give opinions and inputs to ensure that we are in agreement. Non-verbal communication cues such as facial expressions, the gestures given by various body languages, and variation of voices are of equal importance as the spoken words. I have found non-verbal communication effective when reinforcing what one says in words (Alberts Et al.2012). For instance when breaking down the project to the individual assignment, it is important to make sure that everyone is comfortable and will deliver within the deadlines given. When the group members nod their heads vigorously, it’s a good sign that that everyone is in agreement. Non-verbal communication also helps people express emotions which undoubtedly affect the quality of work produced
On the other hand, written communication concerning the group project must observe a formal tone, good grammar, correct spelling, punctuation and etiquette (Alberts Et al.2012). This way the clarity of the message being communicated is guaranteed. Good punctuation gives the tone of the message and creates impressions in the absence of visual cues (Alberts Et al.2012). I believe clarity and tone of a message give it the weight, the seriousness, and the urgency; this in return determines the effectiveness and consistency of a piece of work.
The effectiveness of our group project’s publicity approach can vary according to audience and context because different people will perceive a message differently. One question that the audience has in mind is ‘was it meant for me?’ Therefore, it is essential that the approach used relates the context of the message with the intended audience or else they may not pay the required attention (Alberts Et al.2012).
Ethical publicity approach could influence the broader audience to view a project positively because the owners of the project take a responsible approach to creating its awareness. This way a project will face the fewer risk of poor publicity due to ethical issues and audience will have more confidence and trust in the project (Alberts Et al.2012).
