Chapter 8
This chapter provides a detailed analysis of emotional and behavioural disorders. These disorders often affect children negatively as they grow and impact their lives in a bad way. Children with EBD (emotional and behavioural disorders) often exhibit difficulties in the way they interact with other people (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). In addition, it also causes great difficulties in the way such children learn and socialize. There are many causes of EBD, some of which could be attributed to internal or external problems or both. Based on statistical derived classification systems and clinically derived classifications systems, various EBD can be identified (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). Children with EBD need to be identified early through screening in order for necessary interventions to be put in place to help them improve their social interaction skills and academics in general (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011).
There often some students that exhibit features of emotional and behavioural disturbances. In regard to the classification systems, there are various types of which exhibit various characteristics (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). As a teacher, such knowledge could be used in screening or identifying students with such problems, trying to identify their causes if they are known, plus finding ways to help such children cope with their situation.
Chapter 13
This chapter offers an in depth discussion regarding sensory impairments and how they influence the lives of those affected. Hearing impairment is discussed in detail as the anatomy of the ear and physiology behind the normal hearing is explained (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). Furthermore, causes of hearing loss and its classification given. The impact hearing loss has on learning and social adjustments of those affected is also discussed. Also in the chapter, a discussion regarding visual loss is made (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). It begins by discussion the physiology and anatomical relationship of seeing. It moves forth to explain the various causes of visual loss and the impact it has on individuals with the condition. Academic and social interactions also are some of the difficulties such individuals face.
In having several years as a teacher, I realized the importance of noting students with hearing or visual loss in order to get proper attention. Most children who have their sensory impaired often exhibit poor performance and social interaction skills unless their receive help in regard to that matter (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011).
Chapter 14
This chapter discusses issues that affect individuals that live with physical disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and health disorders as part of their lives. In addition, it also provides an in depth view of the perception these people have regarding their condition and how other people perceive them (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). There are many frontiers that individuals with disabilities become affected some of them include academics, social life, and psychological mind. There are quite a number of interventions in place to help these individuals lives’ better so as to reduce the negative impact their conditions have on their academics and social life (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011).
In any classroom setting, it is vital to identify individuals with health disorders, traumatic brain injuries and physical disabilities in order to provide them with the necessary education (Michael, Clifford & Winston, 2011). Systems have already been put in place to help them manage their social and academic lives.
