Recruitment of employees is one of a key aspect in any organization. This is so since it may be a determinant of outcome i.e. the achievement of goals. It is of essence for the Human Resource department to ensure that it recruits employees that match the job specifications as required. It is therefore important for the HR to identify the most effective incentives to provide in order to attract the best employees available in the job market. In this case, we will look at some of the benefits that would be essential to attract Generation X and Y employees (less than 45 years of age) and differentiate with those benefits that would be put forward for the baby boom generation (45+ years of age) (Aswathappa, 2005).
Employees who are young i.e. 45 years and below tend to have different characteristics that the old employees. This is so due to the fact that they are at the peak of their youth and as such tend to want to have more fun. As such, it would be essential to come up with benefits that would compel them to want to work for you. One of the benefits is proper wages that would be attractive to them and the provision of such things as a vehicle which they may pay through loans while working and also provision of housing . Employees would readily accept a job where they are paid well and get benefits such as a car and a house after employment.
On the other hand, the baby boom generation does not look out for fun but for settlement and one of the aspects that would attract them for employment is the existence of retirement benefits. People would always prefer to work for an organization in which they would expect to receive something even after retirement (Heneman & Judge, 2008). This shows the difference between the benefits that the baby boom generation would prefer and that which the generation X and Y employees would prefer.
