Technology is becoming the odd of the day. The more technology advances, the more people get interested in its use and looking at how humanity cannot work without technology it is amazing. There are several things that technology has enable people to do and will still enable them to do. By looking at such, it becomes impossible to look at the dangers of using the same. It is very important to notice that when the deal is too sweet, then one has to think twice. Much time is spent on the internet and people cannot realize its hazards, they only put their major focus on the good it has done them. It is upon this that the paper is going to elucidate the negative impacts of Google technology on society.
The Google technology has had several drawbacks on the society today in very many ways, it has led to the decline of normal social behaviors (Wilson, 2005). The discovery of the internet has totally abandoned the old method of meeting physically with people who you know and sharing a cup or a dink together. The technology has actually led to solitude life, a point where one does not feel the impact of the rest around him or her. However on the other hand, we can realize that technology has done much in ensuring that the meeting is even easier than it used to be before. It is very possible to sit at a screen in your house and talk to very many people and get to know what is going on in the world around you through the same technology. It therefore points how technology has contributed to the social life of individuals in the present times.
The increasing use of technology has had devastating effects on nations; terrorism is on the increase because of technology. Terrorists have been able to link up with other terrorists in order to cause terror around the world. However much technology has been very beneficial in communication; it has also greatly contributed to the increasing terror due to the fast communication (Panek & Cook, 1992). In the past when technology was not yet embraced like it is today, one could hardly hear cases of terror and terrorism around the world. From the invention of technology, the number of terror cases had grown beyond control. On the opposite, technology has been on the forefront to fight terrorism, the use of Google earth has made it possible to tress events related to terrorism in the present times of technological advancement. Terrorists have been tracked down by the use of technology thus showing how beneficial technology has been on society.
Technology has caused very many social problems, over reliance on the computer technology has created human beings who are highly dependent on the technology and cannot do things on their own. Google search engine has created soft life to people and made them to stop working hard on their own. In other words, technology has made people very lazy due to the availability of all they need. Despite the dependency on the technology, it has encouraged creativity since technology is all about creativity (Wilson, 2005). Technology has made people more creative than before, there is no way one can enjoy anything on the internet without being creative. Very nice web pages have been created and several other creative works that have only been possible through the help of technology. It is for this reason that technology can be vied from the positive side of developing the society (Flora, 2007).
With the big promise of data security, technology has proved to the most insecure in the provision of data security. Very many people who have already stored their information on the internet are not very sure that that their information is very safe. Looking keenly at the Google privacy policy, we get to realize that our information is highly at risk. It can be altered at any given time without our consent and that is what technology offers us. With the increase of cybercrimes, it becomes very risky to store your information online since it can be hacked at any given moment without our notice. It is through this that technology gives the most negative impact to the society (Schenker, 2011). On the contrary, the old system of keeping information was more vulnerable compared to the present options provided by technology. Technology has made it very easy to access information that would have taken a very long time and even be misplaced. It thus shows how beneficial technology is in the present times.
The use of Google glass is another problem to the present generation. A technology that could be very hazardous to the human health is however being embraced. The technology is too expensive and making people to avoid their social responsibilities in a bid to have the technology (Wilson, 2005). Very many other technologies are very expensive leave alone the Google glass that costs from $ 1000 to $5000, which is not just a cheap thing. However, despite the problems brought out about this technology (Flora, 2007). It is a very important one, the hard times of taking movies with cameras will be solved, and messaging becomes faster than ever before, it enables translation of languages among very many other benefits that accrue this technology.
In conclusion, therefore, despite the good things that can be admired about technology, it presents serious negative impacts on the society today. It has spoilt personal relations between people turning a human being into a machine like creature; it has reduced physical interactions and brought serious economic problems (Flora, 2007). Insecurity is on the rise because of technology. Both social insecurity and data insecurity are presented by technology and its advancements. It has finally had serious negative health implication as people use it.
