Many Christians believe that Jesus was not only a prophet, but that he was the son of God. This argument has been a long one, spanning throughout the centuries. Far from the fact that people should not believe in Jesus’ righteousness, but they should not be tempted to believe that he was the son of God, despite what the Bible and the Old Testament say. He was God’s prophet.
Despite the fact that God ordered Adam and his wife to worship only him when they descended to Earth and to avoid unholy actions and beliefs, the sons of Adam violated these orders. This is why God sent his messengers, the first of who was Noah. He was sent some time after Adam died, because his people made anthropomorphic sculptures of five men: “Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq and Nasr” (Holy Qur’an: 71:23). They were the good men before the era of Noah. At first the generation that created these statues, believed they made their faith stronger, by praying to God through them. The next generation believed the sculptures accepted their prayers and through them, God did as well. The third generation started the notion of polytheism through these five statues. This is exactly why God sent all of his prophets to teach people of fidelity to worshipping one god alone. Monotheism was the message of Noah, Ibrahim, Mosses, Jesus, and Mohammed. Currently, there are only three religions of monotheism: Jewish, Christian, and Islam. Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe all prophets came for one reason, to spread the fidelity to worshipping only one god. However, there exists a big argument about Jesus. Consequently, this essay appeals to all Christian believers that Jesus, son of Mary, is a prophet like all others, due to the fact that many of them believe him to be more than human. It is their belief that he is the son of God, and thus, a God himself.
Christians believe that Jesus, son of Mary is also the son of God because he was born without a known father and Virgin Mary was not touched by any man. His conception was immaculate. Moreover, Jesus has almost superhuman abilities. He was able to heal the sick, the blind, and the leprous. The most amazing ability Jesus was in possession of was reviving the dead. Also, after death, Jesus flew to the sky. This is why the Christians believe he was lifted to the kingdom of his father, after the Jews put him on a cross and killed him in Jerusalem. Finally, it is believed that Jesus is the son of God due to all the above mentioned reasons and because the New Testament clearly state that he is the son of God. I would like to refute this belief with two methods. The first one is merely through the use of logic and reasoning, thinking about these ideas purely with our rationing abilities, neglecting our personal beliefs, and the second one is through judgments transferred onto us from these holy books: the New Testament, and Qur’an.
Logically, it is believed that Jesus is the son of God simply because he was born without an earthly father, while Adam was created without a mother or a father. Thus, Adam is nearer to the idea of the son of God more than Jesus. Recently, sciences has evolved up to such an extent that cloning became possible, as it was the case with the cloning of the sheep Dolly in 1996. Therefore, the question is: if Dolly was created without a father, does that mean she is also the son of God?
In addition, the Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God due to his abilities. The first one being that he spoke when he was a mere infant. However, this not enough to support the idea that Jesus is the son of God because there were three infants who also spoke during their infant stage. The first one was the youngest son of the pharaoh’s servant lady, when he put her and all of her five sons in boiling oil, one after the other, because she believed there was only one God in heaven. The second one was the son of an adulterous woman who accused her mother of lying in front of the people. And, the third one was the infant who spoke in the story of grove when the king of Jews in Yemen burned twenty thousand Christians in one day.
Moreover, the most awe-inspiring ability that Jesus had, to bring the dead back to life, does not support the Christian idea about the son of God simply because the prophet Mosses also did that when he brought back to life the man in the Cow story. In addition, Ibrahim did it in the birds story, while the prophet Saleh created a camel and her son from stone, giving them souls with the will of God, something Jesus never did.
Also, if you believe the idea of Jesus flying to the sky supports the initial idea of Jesus being the son of God is weak, because Enoch lived on earth as a king and prophet, and was lifted to the sky after his death, and was immortalized, while it is believed that Jesus will return to earth.
Furthermore, the Bible states clearly that Jesus is the son of God. However, the Old Testament and the Holy Qur’an are opposed to this idea. It is believed that these books come from God, but the pervading question is why one claims evidence opposed to the other. The Holly Qur’an states: “He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent" (Holy Qur’an 112). In contrast to this, the King James’ Bible states that “Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” (John 5:18). Seeing that one book is against the other, it is hard to reach the final truth.
Therefore, I would like explain something about the Qur’an and the Prophet Mohammed. It was written and saved word for word as it came from God and it still has not changed for the past 1500 years, while the Bible was written many years after Jesus left, and it were his disciple friends who wrote their copies according to their memories only. So, their information about same stories or ideas is different from each other.
Also, if we want to judge both holy books, we shall find there is only one Qur’an and many Bibles, and each Bible is different from the others. In addition, each group of Christians printed their own version Bible, according to their own wishes. On the other hand, Qur’an is saved in one language forever, the Arabic language, while the Bible changes from language to language, which changes the meaning of words and ideas as the writer wants. According to Joseph Estes’ word during one of his presentations, an American Christian evangelist from Texas who converted to Islam, each generation modified the New Testament, thus modifying its ideology, moving further away from God’s original words in the original version, while the Holy Qur’an does not change, it remains true to the version of prophet Mohammad.
The final and the strongest point, the Qur’an has constant ideas for strong support of monotheism and any person understands and accepts it, while the Bible swings between monotheism and polytheism through the idea of triangulation. Triangulation is the biggest argument topic in the last two thousand years of human existence, because the mind of humans does not understand or accept this idea. My Christian friends believe that Jesus is son of Mary is neither God nor son of God because three do not equal one and the same, one does not equal three in mathematics, logic, or magic as it is believed in the triangulation idea.
Thus, having all of the previously mentioned arguments, the logical conclusion is that Jesus is not the son of God, but a prophet who possessed extraordinary, superhuman abilities and used them for the betterment of humankind.
