Leadership skills are very essential for the success of a team, group or business as well the individual. Being in school is a good opportunity for one to learn the skills and how to appropriately use them in life to ensure that they succeed in their various endeavors (Cribbin 32). For leaders to be successful, they need to have leadership skills. One such skill is effective communication. One very essential qualities of a leader that I have learnt is the ability to communicate.
Communication is the only way through which we can pass our ideas, dreams and visions to our friends. Knowing what one intends to accomplish may appear very clear in our minds. When expressing such expressions to other people, it is important to know whether you are delivering your message as you had intended (Huszczo 12). As a leader, effective communication calls for clarity of ideas, effective communication skills and courage especially when you are speaking directly to a group of people. I was able to learn, build and develop these skills. I also realized the importance of communication in delegating. This made me to be appointed to give a motivational speech at the induction ceremony held on 16th April 2013.
During the occasion I gave a very comprehensive and interesting motivational speech to members of the Alpha Eta Rho Fraternity. Being the president of this fraternity, I gave my team members very essential skills that would help them in their future life. I had to make them know that they should be ready to shine when it is their time to shine. Throughout the speech I could continuously hold their attention by using a language that was interesting to them. This helped me to maintain the interest of the team members throughout the speech. The message was well delivered. During the occasion, I welcomed 8 new members to the fraternity. I had actually undertaken a through preparation before the day of the occasion to ensure that I deliver my ideas and plans in a clear and persuasive way that the members will understand and execute them. My speech was particularly very interesting and at the end of it the members culminated it with a loud applause.
My effective communication skills earned me a position of the president of the National society of collegiate scholars. The society nominated me to attend a leadership summit in Texas. The summit will take place as from 21st to 23rd June 2013. During the summit, I expect to learn more about communication and leadership. I have been able to accomplish most of the plans that I had for the two teams that I lead. My teams were always well organized, accomplishing their plans on time and fortunately the credit came to me. The exceptional leadership skills that I demonstrated did not go unnoticed. I was awarded a certificate of merit and accomplishment in the 2013 who is who among students in American university and colleges.
