Let’s Get High
The need for a happy life is perhaps all that everybody wants; virtually every human being wants to live a stress-free life. However, the meaning of a happy life is discrepant to different people. To some, a happy and stress-free life is only attainable by smoking Marijuana- according to this group of people, marijuana promises them relaxation and relief for their daily life stress. Admittedly, this might be true for a while, but not all the time because using marijuana is the gateway to illicit drugs and might lead to addiction for a heavy user. Nonetheless, it should be noted that the link between marijuana and other illicit is not openly understood by researchers (Kandel, 2003).
Many people deceptively think smoking marijuana does not cause them anything except the money they pay for it and an inconsiderable harm to their health. Empirical findings, however, indicate that smoking marijuana is not only one step on the path of hard drugs, not to mention the huge harm to their health, but is also a step towards an unhappy life marked with drug addiction (Kandel, 2003). Moreover, many cocaine and heroin users have used marijuana at one point in life before resorting to the use of the hard drugs (cocaine and heroin). It is in this light that the advent of the usage of addictive narcotic drugs has always been postulated, for instance the “gateway hypothesis” (Kandel, 2003). The postulates maintain that regular users of marijuana, after some time will feel that marijuana is not giving them the same feeling it used to during the period of their first encounter with marijuana. Progressively, such people find it inevitable to search for something stronger that will give them that same feeling. Essentially, such people always end up finding a similar feeling in cocaine or heroin; this always marks the advent of the use of hard drugs. In other words, smoking marijuana does not just get the person high, but it will also get the person a higher level in drug use. Similarly, there is another group of people who get involved with marijuana as a result of peer influence. These people smoke marijuana because they hear how their peers importunately speak about their experience with marijuana; how it gives them the best feeling.
Most importantly, Marijuana sellers are normally drugs dealers. Therefore, they will try to sell some of their drugs to their customer by promising them a better experience. While some might practically hoard the drug in a bid to create market for cocaine and heroin, others will implore their clients to buy cocaine or heroin in case marijuana is out of stock. The sellers understand the addictive nature of the two narcotics hence are almost sure that the buyer in their next visit will buy cocaine or heroin instead of marijuana. On the same note, people who constantly meet with drug users have higher chances of using drugs. In short, people get affected by their peer and their exposure.
On the whole, there are several through which people can enhance their life and live a happy life, but they should consider the consequences of these ways. Using marijuana will lead to unwelcome result in their life and health. No one will disagree with the fact that illicit drugs can disastrously affect people’s lives. Concisely, the avoidance of marijuana becomes one of the fundamental steps towards the avoidance of cocaine and heroin. This statement underscores the fact that life events always follow one another; one thing always leads to another.
