Christmas has always been a special time of the year, a time of happiness, joy, peace, and love – and, most importantly, -- time to be thankful. My most memorable thoughts of Christmas season are from my childhood. Every Christmas season was magical for me, until one day when I discovered the truth behind the legend of Santa Clause tale story.
When I look back, I was about seven years old. The Christmas holiday was for me always the best time of the year, just like for every child. My older sister Jana and I used to decorate the entire house, inside and out. We used to spend hours on decorating the trees inof our front yard. Jana traditionally built beautiful candle holders made out offrom pine tree, pine cones and wild red berries. Our mom usually baked at least fifteen different kinds of Christmas biscuits and I enjoyed helping her with decorating ofdecorate the cookies. I was so excited about holidays coming and I kept asking my mom if I could decorate the Christmas tree weeks before, that wayso I could eat all the chocolate truffles decoration out ofsitting in the tree as decorations. Jana was gettingwould get upset each time she saw me eating chocolate, but I didn’t care., I would promised I would not eat chocolate figurines anymore, but. B by the CChristmas, there wasn’t any chocolate left on our Christmas tree.
I had an unusually wild imagination;, I believed in every fairy tale story and every myth I have ever heard. I had no doubt about Santa Clause being real. I believed in the North Pole and Santa’s great mailbox where he was gettingreceived all the letters with Christmas wishes from every child.
My grandmother was strongly religious, and she kept telling me that if I will would not eat red meat on Christmas Eve, I could possibly see a flying gold pig on the sky later that night. I hardly ate anything all day just to see this flying gold pig. Before dinner, I sat by the kitchen window and waited for hours to see this magic gold pig. Surprisingly, I never got to see anything except a sky full of stars shining so brightly and flying snowflakes in the dark. I was disappointed and thought, that maybe I had some how missed it. I was hoping to see this legendary gold pig next year, and I believed in the magic of Christmas until one dayfateful day.
It was a traditional Christmas Eve morning:, I was sitting on my usual spot, the red sofa in our living room, and my sister Jana was sitting in her oversized chair at front of the television., wWe were both watching our favorite fairy tales and eating cookies. We could hardly wait until evening to unwrap our gifts. Our mom was making her traditional potato salad and baked fresh vanilla and hazelnut cookies, before we hit the road to visit our grandparents who lived about ten miles away from us.
I couldn’t wait to get to our Ggrandparent’s’ house and get all the gifts twhat Santa Clause left for us at their house. Grandma always gave us a lot of chocolate, bubble gums, fruit and toys. I ate most of my candy on the way home, and then I kept asking Jana if I could have some of hers, too. I kept asking over and over until she gave me some of her candy. I really enjoyed the trip home,; even though it wasn’t a very long ride, it felt like it. Jana and I were counting watching the Christmas trees light up by every house. We were screaming loudshrieked loudly each time we discovered a new lit tree.
When we arrived home, our mom started preparing dinner as usual. I was helping her setting up and decorating our dining table and then I was waiting with my sister for Santa Clause to bring us our presents. While I was waiting for Santa, I was wondering where Mmom disappeared. I decided to go look for her. I heard some noise downstairs in the laundry room, so I ran there and I discovered something. Our mom was pulling already wrapped presents from empty closet. When she saw me, she didn’t know what to say;, she was quitequiet, looking at me. I did not know what to say, because a belief I had held for as long as I had remembered had suddenly been shattered. My mother started to say something, but I turned to leave the room. Then, she reached out and touched my shoulder, so I turned back around. She said, “Christmas is always magical; but there comes a time when you stop being the one who gets the magic and you start being the one who makes it magic for others.
That time, I realized that Santa Clause and the North Pole were just stories our parents told us so that we would behave. I stopped believing in imaginary flying gold pigs and my magical Christmases were have been different since then. I came back upstairs and told my sister about our mom hiding presents in the closet. Jana only said that she knew Santa Clause doesn’t really exist. I was little sad, but I got over my sadness pretty soon when I saw all the gifts.
Even though I don’t believehaven’t believed in Santa Clause for quite some time, I still enjoy Christmas and everything twhat comes with the season. Of course, today I have a different view of holidays. I appreciate spending time with my family and friends. I am having good time when I amenjoy looking for presents to buy and I enjoy Christmas especially when I can make this time magic for my sister’s kids. It’s fun to watch kids waiting for Santa Clause and making Christmas wishes, and then watch them having sparkles in their eyes when they open their presents. I look forward to the time when I have my own kids to make Christmas magic for. In the meantime, though, I believe that a part of Christmas magic involves how I can make life better and happier for those around me. It turns out that Santa Claus is not dead, and not even an illusion. It turns out that, if I look in the right way, I see him every time I look in the mirror.
