My interest in the Apple Company did not go beyond curiosity and reading news lines connected with it. I never understood the people who are the fans of products from Apple and did not understand their devotion to only one brand. For me, it was simply impossible to imagine how not to try a gadget of one brand after using of previous another one. Yes we all know that Apple manufactures devices of sufficient quality However, many other vendors do so as well. So why are there multi-million army of fans of Apple who would not for the world buy gadget of another manufacturer? This question was plaguing me the most.
First time meeting Apple
I'm going to tell you about my first encounter with such a stunning company as Apple. It all started not so long ago, somewhere over four years ago. And my close meeting with the Company was connected with the presentation of the iPad – the first presentation of Apple seen by me online, but not the last one.
Six months before it I became really obsessed with the newly-designed Apple product and then began to read most all the news about the leak of the information about the "tablet" from Apple. By the way, there was an incredible amount of rumors about it, although only little of them confirmed in reality. And there was no leaks of image of the future generation device which fueled my interest in the device.
You know, I always respected competitors of Apple, but what they have done in recent times was either not thought out, or was not completed yet, or both, or, what is worse – half way copied from any Apple product. Oh, excuse me, I loosed the focus, let`s get back to the topic.
Finally, it was January 27, 2010, when the presentation of the iPad was to be held, (iTablet – as it was called those days). The night before lasted very long, as I could not sleep and was constantly surfing the Internet for the latest news, waiting for some interesting information about the tablet Apple. It is how Apple managed to whet my interest and make me want to buy not even released device. I hardly could put eyes together that night and, thanks God, I woke up on time.
In the late morning, I remember all popular Internet resources were broadcasting that performance held in the Yerba Buena Center, in San Francisco. It took a couple of minutes, and then Steve Jobs took the stage holding in his hands a long-awaited tablet, which they called the iPad. The first reaction was mixed, because I had not seen anything similar before, and it much looked like giant MP3 player iPod touch. But again, in a couple of minutes Steve demonstrated all the device`s astonishing capabilities, and I realized that the iPad was the best gadget I had ever seen before. All this presentation was soon over, and I was left under an incredibly powerful influence of the seen event. In a couple of months, I bought my first Apple product – iPad. And it was an absolutely right choice.
A little later, I switched from Windows mobile device on the iPhone. After first day of use of it, I could not understand how I could stand my HTC 3300 and how can someone enjoy smartphones run by Android. The same happened in relation to Windows – I changed my PC for MacBook.
The essence is in details
I realized that, without noticing it, I joined the army of Apple fans. That made me think even more about the fact why I, as well as other people, am attracted to the Apple devices. In the end, I came to a very simple explanation Apple makes products for people. This is the main principle of all their beginnings. The entire design of devices, interfaces of programs Usability and simplicity, attention to every detail – that are the components of their motto.
I love Apple mostly for the attention to details throughout. Let`s take the most seemingly trivial thing – sleep indicator of Apple computer. On my MacBook, just as on many others`, there is a little bulb – light emitting diode – a special indicator that pulsates with a certain rhythm confirming that the laptop is "asleep". However, Apple would not be Apple, if this indicator did not mean something more. Once I read on the Web about patented by Apple technology of “breathing” light emitting diode that was characterized as: “blinking effect of the sleep-mode indicator in accordance with the present invention mimics the rhythm of breathing which is psychologically appealing”.
“Nonsense” – one may argue. Trifle, which is not worth paying attention to? Possible it is. However, Apple technologies are full of such details, and the overall impression of these products is made of them, not only of gigahertz and gigabytes. Just not all of us are able to notice and appreciate that. I could. One shall just think: at the level of light indicators, Apple conducts researches. They think what for me would be psychologically attractive. I appreciate it.
Looking backwards at Microsoft times
In addition, then I realized that I was cheated by Windows for more than eight years. I had been held in a shed, out of beautiful Macintosh world of larger capabilities; I had been convinced that it was a beautiful and powerful operating system, though it never was. Not at all. I realized this about three years ago, and I think so up to day. That is five years I cannot forgive Windows management that I had been given under the guise of a good product all that nonsense, which I had been using for more than eight years before 2011.
Now I understand, the main competence of Microsoft – is to negotiate with its customers and distributors. They simply expand to new markets by, at first glance advantageous, however, enslaving terms, when Apple main competence lies in technological breakthroughs.
An inalienable assistant
Apple is known for its care of their user. Moreover, they do not give me a chance to seek technical support from them. All my Apple devices work today just as they were working in the first day of their purchase, and I am happy of that. It is all because Apple does not construct weak, old-fashioned computers and devices; they are always in tunes with the time, even in advance of it dictating future trends. Apple is not a player on the market of low-end products – this is what Apple gadgets work faster than analogical ones of other brands.
I make sure that using Macintosh the person is concerned with the work itself but not with tuning, optimization and maintenance of the system. The same rule applies to its mobile devices. Hence, the quality of Apple products is one more thing that makes me trust this company.
Simple design of its devices made me think in a different way. It is not a matter of obsession with Job`s creed “Think different” – it is a matter of evolving esthetical feelings. Today my apartment much looks like Apple gadgets – it is moderately furnished and equipped, simplicity prevails in every room. For a more complete picture, I even bought Apple TV, as a means for watching movies and listening to music from my collection in iTunes match. I could certainly use a built-in the TV media player, but for me aesthetic pleasure that I get from Apple product is dominating.
And I'm not afraid of spending money. When I pay Apple TV for James Bond (I paid for the rent of the movie at first and then paid for the full version), it is Apple that posts me the message of the following sense: “Are you sure you want to buy the movie, which you already rented?". It is Apple that is afraid that I would not spend the extra money on it. Once again – I am speechless. Because I understand that James Bond will get the money, and next movies of the franchise will be even better. Also, I understand that Apple will not be spoiled of my money but will only get stronger.
