The animated Commercial of Brawny Paper that incorporates a cover version of "Lean on Me” starts off with a woman shopping and as she approaches the shelves packed with Brawny paper, the animation which resembles a man on the brawny pack starts singing. Some of the words from the song are such as “You can lean on me, when you need something strong”. The rest of the commercial features three women, one making a drink, another washing utensils, while the last one together with her daughter are cleaning some fruits. The commercial also features a man painting while his daughter wipes paint off his face (VaporzTech, 2010).
The commercial depicts many of the old-age stereotypes in regard to both men and women. The commercial plays on individual’s perception of what generally makes something strong as well as able to handle difficult situations or things as it shows a man singing on the pact. This also brings out the idea that Brawny paper possesses same strength as men. The commercial also depicts a woman as weak for she requires the man’s help.
Other gender based stereotypes present in the commercial are like when the woman is assigned the task of shopping for products. This makes it seem like it is the duty of women for grocery shopping. Next the commercial captures a lady in the kitchen preparing a drink using the blender; this shows the stereotype that women are the ones who deal in preparing meals or other edible foodstuffs (VaporzTech, 2010). Later in the commercial, we see a lady with her child in the kitchen they are both washing dishes this portrays the stereotype that women are the ones who conduct house cleaning activities also it shows that women are the ones in charge of taking care and teaching the children because the lady is seen assisting the child wash the dish. The commercial shows a man with a paint stained brush painting the wall this captures the stereotype that painting is a man's job. A young girl is then featured wiping paint off the man’s face; this shows the stereotype that ladies are nurturers despite their age (VaporzTech, 2010).
