Studying a human being is one of the most important scientific tasks and psychology takes one of the top places among sciences about humans. On my point of view psychological tests help to understand one’s mental life . They allow you to understand yourself , get to know your strengths and weaknesses . And the reason you must know yourself is to develop self-discipline, to work on correcting some imperfections , to advance abilities.
Here the interesting thing is that psychological tests on personality have a large amount of both zealous supporters and desperate opponents. Supporters point to the value of the information tests give to solve the huge number of practical problems - from professional selection to assessment of the effectiveness of psychotherapy – and the accuracy of long-term forecasts made by means of tests.
On the other hand, opponents of tests indicate that almost everyone in some situations thinks, feels, acts like an extrovert, while in others - like an introvert. Considering the above fact, it is important to remember that no matter which model we associate our personality with, it is just one aspect of many, because our actions are also affected by the environment, experience and individual goals. In different character types and profiles it is described how people belonging to a certain type of personality are likely to behave. However, I think that these are only indicators and tendencies, not rules or unconditioned responses. There is a big difference between getting 10% in favor of signs or getting 80%. This information is used to encourage self-development and to have a better understanding of others, but not to perceive as the truth.
One more argument I can say is that the personality descriptions given after tests correspond to situations where a feature is manifested (and it is not always because the human is much more difficult even than the best developed test) and don’t correspond to in-between cases which are much more common. In the same way, in some periods of life people can be more like introverts (or emotionally stable), in other – like extraverts.
As for me, I have passed the personality test we were given at university and got rather controversial results. In 2 out of the 4 responses I had almost equal quantity of a and b answers, so this means that I acquire information, make decisions in different ways. My type of personality is an introvert. There’s a little disparity in my opinion and the test result because I always thought of my personality type as the combination of extraversion and introversion. I agree with the fact that it’s really difficult to predict people’ behavior in specific situations by personality peculiarities.
