Introduction:
Pocatello, Idaho is one of the largest cities in the state, actually the fifth largest in the state. There are several places of note, most interestingly there is the University of Idaho which is situated there. This contains a campus which has a large number of facilities and places where one can chill out and study in relative tranquillity.
The university has been established at its present site since 1901 and has grown exponentially ever since. It contains some really interesting campus buildings which date to the earlier part of the 19th century and which follow a certain style. The degree programmes offered by the state university are varied and with a student population of around 14,000, there is ample scope for variety and social mixing with extra-curricular activities among the most involving for the students.
Notable places:
The grounds of the university in Pocatello include several paths and walkways which enables one to move and walk around to their heart’s content. However there are other places of interest which catch the eye and one of these is the movie theatre where films are continually being shown and students can enjoy these events on quite a regular basis. There is also a very active Student Activities Board which co-ordinates said activities and really does its best to make life good for the students at the university.
There is also a large football ground at the university and there have been many famous players who have militated here. Obviously this means that university students have considerable sporting activities available and the stadium is equipped with considerable facilities that enable high sporting goals to be achieved.
The library is very beautiful and hugely varied. There are a wealth of books on a myriad of subjects which include history, the arts and sciences. Everything is organized quite beautifully with long rows of books in alphabetical order where one can sit down and read to their heart’s content. The reading rooms are also wonderfully equipped and these are frequented very often by the students.
The lecture rooms are also very much state of the art and include all the latest facilities. One can walk through these rooms and get a feel of the subjects which are taught here and which demonstrate directness in everything. A typical example would be the lecture room for chemistry where there is a considerable array of equipment throughout which shows that the university is well equipped for students in this sector.
Thesis statement:
Returning to the library, one can only say that this is quite a heavenly place with several nooks and crannies where one can relax and read to one’s heart’s content. Personally I found the section on history as hugely interesting as it showed some aspects of the Idaho story which is not really all that far away in time but which includes several notable episodes. The way the library is organised also demonstrates considerable originality in the manner with which everything is set up.
There are several other buildings of note around the campus which also show a traditionalist aspect with architecture and which are a joy to visit. Some of the outbuildings which dot the campus show a feel for relaxation and are designed with that particular aspect in mind. However, once again I must return to the library to show my enthusiasm for this particular area.
You feel homely as soon as you enter this library with its large arched ceiling and walls which portray a sense of awe and beauty throughout. Then as soon as you walk into the shelving area where one can find the books, you end up in a world of your own which is further emphasised by the rows and rows of books with several students also finding solace in this atmosphere.
Conclusion:
Although the University of Idaho State is a large and extremely varied campus, the library probably stands out as the building which has the most strengths and attractions. Perhaps it is always an area where reflection and solace is found but the Idaho State University Library is surely something else. There is a lot to learn especially with the rare books on the history of the state which also demonstrate a certain prowess and historical longing. One is quite captivated by all that goes along in the library if one observes what the students are doing and how they discuss and congregate in the library to their heart’s content.
However there are also other areas which can be interesting across the Pocatello campus and these include the grounds which are extremely beautiful and which also exude serenity and peacefulness. The lecture rooms also have a homely atmosphere and are very attractive in their own right – certainly a plus point for those students who work and study here. The Idaho State University is a fine campus with a library that is second to none.
