This web began as a project at the European Organization for Nuclear Research where Tim Berners-Lee developed a vision of the World Wide Web. It was created in 1994 as collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and European Organization for Nuclear Research. In addition, this included the assistance from the U.S Defense Advanced Research Project Agency and the European Commission (LIc, 45). Basing on this aspect, it is seen that it was standardized by a group of about 500 member organizations around the world. In essence, it meant to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing common protocol that bring about its evolution and ensure its interoperability.
This shows that the World Wide Web wanted to ensure that the web continued to work no matter what business. Basing on this, it can be related that this system seeks to support the wide technologies in digital publishing context. It tends to do this by relating with publishing communities in order to reinforce cooperation around well defined technical aspects. It is a preferable approach as it brings together a wide range of stakeholders for the purpose of sharing their own perspectives, needs and ideas that ensure that emerging global technology standards meet the requirements of the Digital Publishing industry (LIc, 76). Therefore, the World Wide Web is the path to modernity as contributes towards the development of the internet. As a result of this, business oriented individuals are able to gain knowledge and use it towards the development of their business.
4A. summary of videos
One laptop per child
In this video, Nicholas Negroponte had a vision in which every child ought to own a laptop; the project was known as one laptop one child. This project was started in Cambodia, and is seen as an essential advantage to the children as it is used to advance the learning system as a result of introduction of computers, there was the rise of students at the school which has been initiated by introduction of small and cost effective gadgets (Negroponte). He perceives that children can easily learn on how to use a laptop in as much as 3 minutes.
Nicholas Negroponte entails that it is an effective machine as it makes the life of children more comfortable. It is chargeable and can stay as long as 12 hours with power, hence making it convenient for children. Introduction of the classmate computer by Intel has killed his dream. This is so as they have given him a huge competition, and hence making his efforts hopeless (Negroponte). Thus, the project of one laptop per child by Nicholas Negroponte is to offer every child in the world, and hence this is supposed to be his greatest achievement that he intends to do.

This video illustrates in detail on Marvell foundation that was held at the shanghai world Expo and it consisted of the individuals of San-Francisco and shan-high. It was held at the urban best practices center with the intention of celebrating the 30 years that they have worked together, and was based on their formal relationship (YouTube). With the participation of magrel who has contributed to the green principle of their committee.
Entertainment was also included and after wards, Magrel explained to the guests that she was born in Shanghi 30 years ago but currently living in San Francisco. Basically, the expo was meant to bring the two parties together and to remind them of their coordination. It is also seen that their target is to make everything in a person’s life smarter, greener, and simpler to be used anytime, anywhere and on any gadget (YouTube). It tends to capture special moments live and as they happen, share them instantly with individuals we care about.
TEDxPLAZACIBELES Miguel Brechner Technology for everyone Ceibal Plan
There is the video that illustrates in detail on Ceibal plan by Miguel Brechner technology that is meant to be all individuals in Uruguay. His presentation starts by illustrating to the audience the impact of giving computers to children in poor areas has contributed to them. He narrates that children are fast learners when it comes to use of technology. The plan is meant to focus on technology, education and equality (YouTube). This is made possible through the inclusion of Social inclusion and real opportunities through the aspect of taking risks.
They also tend to do this innovatively by separating management and policy making. Deployment of 450, 000 computers in Uruguay since 2007 has assisted in the leaning activities and this is s beneficial strategy to the state. It is also seen that Miguel supports the issue that introduction of computers in rural areas has contributed to the rise of more children being interested in education (YouTube). This was later transformed from a privilege to a right, which essentially makes it worthwhile. Basically, this entails that their introduction of computers at schools has made the life of both teachers and students more comfortable and essential in Uruguay as a whole.
4B. Intel’s Actions against OLPC
Intel’s decision to stay away with Negroponte’s OLPC is a selfish gesture if I may say. They didn’t want to venture on a project with limited a more limited market because profit may be minimal or even negative because they already have their previous product which is the “classmate pc” where their target market is larger and obviously, profit is much better.
Uruguay’s action
Uruguay’s policy and move to give laptops to its students specially those who can’t afford one just shows how their government prioritizes the education of its population and to modernize education in their country. I agree with their government when they said that they the children must learn how to manipulate computers regardless of the underlying software. This is true because, the important thing is for the children to know how to operate computers so that they may not be left behind in the fast changing world. This move also is challenge to its teachers because they are forced to embrace the new technology, or else how can they teach. So this program also helped the teachers in the process of “modernizing themselves”.
4C. difficult when using Libre Office as a word processor as compared to using Microsoft WORD as a word processor
While using Microsoft word processor as compared to Libre office processor, I came to realize that Libre office is the best alternative to Microsoft. This is so as with Libre office, one is able to use it effectively as it’s a full office suite that contains word processor, spreadsheet and presentation programs that can be used to read and write documents used by Microsoft word. Libre is also totally free and can be installed on as many computers as possible unlike Microsoft office word that is limited to 3 computers (Lucey, 23-56). Libreoffice can also be used to read documents that Microsoft office word has created and write documents that Microsoft office word users can read. Therefore, basing on my research and the way I used Libre; it is more preferable as it is less bloted and does not need any silly activation. I also came to apprehend that Microsoft word has problems when it comes to web publishing and it lacks backward compatibility. In essence, this enatails that even though Microsoft office word is number one in the world, it carries with it several disadvantages that make alternative Libre office word more attractive.
5. Cost and reasons for choosing a suite
It is seen that the cost of a copy of Microsoft office word is $30 and therefore the cost of 30 copies is about $900. Whereas the cost of Libre Office for thirty copies is free as there are pragmatic reasons for preferring free software. Essentially, this entails that in my case I would prefer to use Libre Office as it’s a free suite that contains word processor, spreadsheet and others, and hence this enables it to compete favorably with Microsoft office in every manner of way except price (Cadle & Yeates, 45).It can also read and write standard word files as well as other formats, hence this tends to show that it can be used to create files and later be read by Microsoft word and vice-versa.
Libre Office does not use the confusing ribbon menu that is usually used by the later Microsoft office commodities. This is so as it uses the traditional pull-down menus as used by most windows and Macintosh programs. As a result of this, finding commands in this suite is easier than when using Microsoft Office. It can be found in a large number of languages, and more are being added continually as it is a free software-drive project (Lucey, 98). Its development is open to new ideas and their software is tested, and used daily by a huge and devoted user community.
Basing on Libre Office word long history, this makes it to have a more stable and functional product. More so, its development being open has enabled it to be extensively tested by security experts which have brought about peace of mind. This as well entails that its more preferable as it is more compatible with all major competitors file formats as it is supported by a big worldwide community (Cadle & Yeates, 65). Thus, the above reasons illustrate as to why use of Libre Office would be more preferable as compared to Microsoft Office Word as it is designed to bring back positive results and at an affordable price.

Google chrome- this application is the key to Google’s attempt to transform from a search engine to a purveyor of personalized online services. This entails that it raises the profile of those services by weaving them into individual’s daily lives. Therefore, the addition of Google Now to Chrome and Chrome OS bridges a divide between Android and Google’s browser based software foundation. This illustrates that its convenient aspect is based on the convergence in Google’s emphasis on synchronizing settings (Lucey, 123).
In addition, google’s browser has additional features for bookmark searching and offers support for the scripting languages for MathML and HTML plus a voice recognition application in its current version. In it’s effort to advance from other browsers, it also has added a kind of protection for those automatically installed extensions which is particularly useful because, one can control the applications that are installed saving memory space. Chome also has added features of a built-in flash and PDF reader, making the lives of its users simpler, because it does not require them to install third party software for it to be able to open flash application or read PDF documents unlike Firefox. The browser’s speed also utilizes the processors graphic speed giving it additional speed because it does rely on the capability of your computer. With regards to its installation, it only takes less than a minute to install, thus those who would want to try need not wait for long before they can experience Chome. Most importantly, Chome has a simple and user friendly interface, making the lives of newbies very simple. An “omnibox” where you can type addresses or titles and the most likely candidates will automatically dropdown saving a time for the user to type or search.
Google Drive - Google Drive is an online storage with synchronization features which aimed to make their user’s life a simpler and easier. Although, files can be uploaded in gmail or in google docs, they can’t be organized as if you are using a hardrive. Google Drive is easy to install, and even supported by Android and available in mobile phones. Once installed, it automatically synchronizes your files saved on google docs with a very simple interface, almost similar on your windows explorer. Even if one has numerous computers, once google drive is installed in each with the same account then files can be synchronized and even be access even if there is no internet access, synching will be automatic once there is a connection. Another superb feature, which is available to all google products is its search capability which have excellent searching from folders, files or even text.
Microsoft- it is located in Washington and supports a range of services that are related to computing, hence this makes it a market dominant in both PC operating system and office suite markets. Since these groups are beneficial for any project to be successful, some of the group members use them. The security program that I use is the Super antispyware Free Edition and I prefer to use it as it detects and removes viruses that might harm the programs (Cadle & Yeates, 78). Presence of light on system resources enables the antivirus to speed up the running of the program. It goes to the extent of involving the protection of data and private information. In essence, this entails that the application of Super antispyware Free Edition is effective as it evades the invention of any harmful virus, and making the system worthwhile.
