- What concerns are present through the recent cinematic output of Quentin Tarantino?
Quentin Tarantino is a movie director and the latest movies he has produced include Django Unchained in 2012 and Inglorious bustards in 2009. The concerns present in these movies include tyrannous forms of leadership. In Django Unchained we are introduced into forced slavery where the black person is forced to endure hardship while toiling for the white man. The black man is not considered to be an equal of the white man hence the reason why they are subjected to slavery. The slaves are considered like any common market product that can be bought and sold and their freedom is at the mercy of the white man. In Inglorious Bastards we are shown of how people are willing to kill their Nazi leaders for the injustice form of leadership he was using. The tow people who wanted to assassinate this Nazi leader are an American team of soldiers and a French seller who was not pleased with the kind of leadership by the German Nazi.
- What combination of elements (both formal and thematic) comprises his “signature” style?
In the two movies, Quentin Tarantino has used several elements and the common one amongst the two movies is creating the scenario that happened decades ago. Django unchained explains the type of civilization that was there in the nineteenth century. It shows how people were segregated according to the colour of their skin and for you to enjoy certain privileges you had to be white. Those who had black skins were referred to as Negros by the whites and they were only good for doing the laborious activities of the white man, like cleaning and maintaining the house for women and working in the farm for men. Inglorious bastards show the viewer a glimpse of what was there during the period of the world war two. How tyrannous Nazi leaders held on to power and ruled their people with a firm hand. Nazi leaders were dictators and they abused their power in doing activities that did not involve helping the people who put them in power. The only way that they could let go of the power is if they were dead after being assassinated or after a coup.
- Does Tarnatino’s work penetrate to the levels of interior meaning as discussed by Andrew Sarris in “Notes on the Auteur theory in 1962 ”
Yes the work of Tarnatino’s penetrates to the levels of interiors meaning as discussed by Andrew Sarris who was majorly a critic of cinema films and in the films directed by Tarantino he makes sure to critic some of the practices portrayed in the films. In the case of Django Unchained, vices like slavery are shown and we can see how inhumane this practice was. Tarantino brings us to this concept through the main character Djando who is taken into slavery and unfortunately is stripped away from his wife but they end up having a happy ending. From the film Inglorious Bastards the scene in critique is about the tyrannous rule of the Nazi after the Second World War. The rule of this era was responsible for the death of many innocent lives that were fighting for the change of regime. In the end of the two movies there is a silver lining because we are shown the end of tough times.
