Management
Diversity in the working environment is leading to as situation where workers receive different pay. However, there are several negative consequences of the difference in pay between workers doing the same jobs. In the first place, the workers receiving lower pay feel demoralized. They feel that they are less valued in the organization and as a result, their productivity is greatly affected. Secondly, these employees may find it hard to work with other employees in the same organization. These employees feel that the other employees know that they are paid less than what the others earn. Such an employee develops low self esteem and find it difficult to work with the others. Generally, the difference in pay between workers lead to development of conflicts within the organization making it difficult for the workers to co operate and work together. This affects the productivity of all the workers in the organization.
Performance based wage discrimination can be eliminated by ensuring that individuals receive additional salaries based on their performance. In that case, no complains are likely to arise. Instead, employees are likely to make efforts to ensure that they receive additional pay. This will improve the productivity of all the employees. Gender should not be a basis of increasing the salaries of individuals as long as the productivity is the same.
In conclusion, different pay in the same workplace brings a lot of problems in the working environment. The management is expected to take the necessary actions to avoid these problems.
