How do you view yourself as a thinker?
Many students and teachers alike think of the of English course as being flat and only dwells on examining literature articles for their settings , metaphors, and themes. This is a falsehood mentality about English courses, and any English student can testify this. The fact is, English goes beyond literature examinations and develops your critical mind immensely. Personally, I have undergone some huge improvement learning the course. What English does is that it makes you understand your self-knowledge, content knowledge, rhetorical knowledge and critical knowledge.
My ability to think can be viewed from the fact that I am able to discern my personal and other viewpoints, and the knowledge I have or may lack before expressing myself. This manner of thinking has helped me not to get into the way of others and grow effective thinking skills.
Do you feel comfortable with your ability to think critically?
Yes, critical thinking is the process through which one solves problems and makes decisions. My critical thinking ability helps me analyze other ideas and understand them in a manner that goes beyond their literal thought. My appreciation of others thoughts has enabled me gain insight and assisted me in structuring self-thoughts. This way I am able to understand opposing views, be less judgmental and take risks.
Do you consider yourself as having an open mind? Why or Why not?
Open-mindedness can be defined as having the ability to explore other people’s ideas and views without being hypocritical or considering your beliefs. I would say I am open minded on other things but closed on other issues that I have a strong belief in. For instance, when reading literature about a certain author, in order to understand the piece I have to accept the viewpoint of the author. That in English has tremendously improved my open-mindedness. I would translate my closed-mindedness falls on fictional accounts that attempt to say otherwise of my strong beliefs.

One book that confirmed my thoughts and helped me understand myself better is “The Introverts” by Sophia Dembling. Being an introvert myself, the book enabled me to understand some of my unexplained behaviors such as ignoring phone calls. In my justification, this allows people like me time to recharge. In addition, the book gives advice on how to get along with extroverts and how to blend with the society.
