The victory speech of Barrack Obama was delivered by him after getting victory in the presidential election of the United States on Nov 4th, 2012. For conducting the rhetorical analysis of his speech, the pentagon model will be focused. The topic of this speech was elections; the future of United States, the political campaign ran for the elections and the American dream. The audience was the people who supported Obama in elections and voted for him in particular and the rest of the American nation in general. Obama showed his gratitude many times repetitively in the speech to his supporters, friends and family. The intention of the speech was to thank his followers for supporting him in the election.
He addressed the nation by expressing how the nation is changing due to demography in the United States. For this purpose, he used pathos and evoked patriotism in the nation. It created positivity in the feel of the speech, speaker and the listeners. He asserted that “Tonight, more than 200 years after the former colony won the right to determine its destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward”. In the eighth line he used the words The American people, these come under personification because he linked the feelings of American people with their motherland that is the United States (The Guardian 1).
The claim of the speech was that Americans have made the right choice which will reshape the US. Ground was made by giving various current examples of victory and prosperity like he said that the economy was recovering (The Guardian 3). Warrant presented by using ethos and pathos.
The kind of appeal followed in the speech was pathos as the speaker was happy, and so was the audience of the speech. Ethos was also applied in this speech because the speaker was the president of the US and had all the authority. The theme of the speech that is winning the election showed that the people liked the speaker and appreciated him as well.
